Friday Update, March 2, 2012

Morning everyone!

As everyone is worried about the development progress, a few words about that first.

You will see the beta graphics patch very shortly. I know you’ve been waiting for it forever. We’re working on it non-stop, and what can I say, it can only be ready when it’s ready. We’re not working on an externally set schedule, so we can sit down and do things right rather than rushing them out to meet a deadline.
I want to apologize to everybody for it taking so long. But I’d rather apologize for this than for releasing things quickly and for it to be of inferior quality.

Now with that out of the way, let’s continue looking at more project for the upcoming sequel. It’s the good old Il-2 we’ve already shown before, but you’ll get a quick glimpse at some progress with the still WIP fall landscape.
The colors, trees and grass is precisely what we’re working on this very second, and it’s just as obvious to us as well as you that this version is not yet perfect.

Yes, that agenda is to have a working version of COD before we get excited about a sequel. They are sort of putting the cart before the horse. I don't expect you to understand that because you are getting entertainment out of it now. Think of the offline folks that have got zero since purchase. You really can't understand why most folks don't get excited about sequel when they haven't been able to enjoy the first one yet?

Let's try to keep this thread debate free - we already have a couple of other threads for that.

Thanks for posting Frey. I like the WIP fall colors. Some folks would like to see some red textures as well. Others have said that some areas of Russia's fall terrain didn't didn't have any red. Either way it will be nice to have seasonal maps.

I love that pic, but I'm sorry to say I'm actually starting to feel the same way too. This whole site is becoming less and less pleasant to visit.

Totally understandable bans at the banana forums mean that, ahem, certain elements have made SimHQ their home... Great, huh?

There certainly seems to be an element who have been fundamentally affected by the state this game. The resulting anger is such that, at least in this forum, they seem like 'angry posters' as apposed to a poster who is angry.

There is also a element who attack posters and not posts with personal attacks and name calling.

I wouldn't say the whole site, mostly just the COD and PWEC forums. COD has certainly achieved new levels of frustration for most given the state of the release and the fact that it's still not playable/enjoyable 9 months later. When people post their frustrations about the sim, certain people take it personally and feel the need to launch personal attacks and the arguing ensues.

At the end of the day its just a game, not real life, so obsession with it for or against is not very healthy.

No I disagree Furbs the personal attacks transcend all 'elements', we all do it. Sorry but this stuff just makes this forum more polar. By labelling people we set the stage ripe for personal attacks and the like.

I argue with Chivas all the time here as you know and its never personal attacks or insults.

Quite true, i work full time and have a family, i only get pissed off when i check the state of the sim, log in here or 1C, i dont think about this or any sim when im not.

And the 'other' thread was doing just fine until the usual suspect once again went into crusade mode and successfully got the thread locked.




There's quite a bit of difference between guys like Chivas who show an optimistic outlook on CloD development and argue their views in a polite manner and the constant, immature sniping some posters engage in whenever someone criticizes the game, the devs or the development process.

Sorry Furbs but you're not an element, though you and Chivas do represent well the two major 'elements' in this forum. I even saw Chivas throw out an exasperated shout out once.

I've tried not too, but I have definitely insulted people in frustration over the stone throwing. I understand the frustration of the wait, but this is exactly why we aren't seeing any developers doing combat flight simulators anymore, they've become too complicated and time consuming. We are mostly adults here and should have gotten over the Unfinished release along time ago. If you pause to take a close look, alot has been accomplished, but its taken years to get to this far, and its not going to be finished in a year, especially when they've had to rewrite portions of the code.

You mean other than, DCS, 777 studios, Thirdwire, Jet Thunder, Combat Helo, etc.

Well Force you maybe right there are other flight sim developers out there, but that is one sorry looking list(quantity). Jet Thunder? Yikes.

I would think flight sims are difficult to make, no matter how extensvie a flight sim developer list is.
