Just downloaded and installed, and completed the first mission which only seemed to support 3rd person view, now on second mission which is actually cockpit view but it doesn't seem to support TrackIR and it looks like I need to leave the HUD on or else I can't follow the bossy woman's directions...
Anyone found a trick to enable TrackIR? It's going to be hard to enjoy this without it...
Update: Once you get past the first two missions it unlocks free flight and I was able to take the Stearman out for a flight, I really like the framerate (110FPS avg on maxxed settings) but I really miss TrackIR which is apparently still not supported in this release version. Scenery is better than default FSX so far, but somewhat meh to Orbx spoiled fliers like me...

TBH I assumed they'd have trackIR working in the final release. I wont spend money on it until.they do!

I gave it a go this morning, after I spent half an hour figuring out how to get a Live account working First impressions: The good - I really like the checklist feature. Wish FSX had this. - I find that the view system (mouse panning, eyepoint shift, zoom) is improved. The bad - No force feedback??? - Flight characteristics and wind effects seem OK if I turn off the non-realism options, BUT the lack of force feedback makes it feel as if I am on rails. - No custom weather, only preset weather themes. Really??? - Awkward looking clouds - Texture shimmering; this must be related to my settings (all max :D), but the in-game graphics options are so basic that I haven't found a way to solve it yet. - All the stuff that has already been beaten to death, such as lack of AI traffic and ATC.

How to get the Stearman? it says "free to fly", but it asks for a product key. I'm logged in in windows live and I have a gamertag, what other I need? That's what got me stumped too. I got it to work eventually by "buying" Flight (at price of $0) on the Live marketplace. After that I didn't have to enter a product key and the Stearman appeared. Could be just me, but I find the whole Live thing very confusing

"Flight" is to aviation simulation as "Sonic and Sega's All Star Racing" is to racing simulation.
I can't come up with a more suitable comparison.

Agree. No TIR, limited axis responses, presets for weather, no FFB, no AI(??!!!) and no traffic in general w/o paying for upgrades spells diasaster for me at least. Made my mind up about prepar3d though, so kudos where it's due. It is a "fun" app as it were, wish I could play it on my iPad. "Flight" is to aviation simulation as "Sonic and Sega's All Star Racing" is to racing simulation.

I can't come up with a more suitable comparison. That is a horrible and inaccurate analogy if I've ever seen one. IMHO opinion anyway. Yeah some features are missing that a lot if us simmers conider a must. Hopefully they add some of them. But it's still more of a simulator than some of the other flight related games that have active forums here at SimHQ.

BTW it looks like TrackIR being missing from Flight is 100% a Microsoft situation, we've seen confirmation from beta testers that they loudly reported how important TIR support was, and now we have confirmation that Naturalpoint has also been trying to get MS to support it and they don't seem to make it a priority: AVSIM post by Naturalpoint on Flight TIR support I'm sure TIR support is not as important as putting in a "Coconut Bra" Achievement, but hopefully they will eventually work their way to adding it as well as toe brake support ;-)

Its hard to believe that Flight doesn't even have basic support for the MSFF2, a Microsoft product. I don't even get centre forces, just a floppy stick. The flight model for the Stearman is laughable, forget about rudder pedals you just don't need them, just yank and bank around the sky Freespace style.
If I want to fly a civ sim with nice graphics there's Aeroflight, for combat there's ROF or DCS. Flight doesn't even look special gfx wise, if you want a free sim then ROF has been FTP for a while.

MS dropped support for their Sidewinders years ago. That's what we get for using outdated hardware (I'm in the same boat as you). To their credit, the MSFF2 is still a great stick. I find it incredible that a flightsim/flightgame should lack FF support. But even worse than that, there seems to be no way to adjust controller sensitivity! That is inexcusable when just about every game allows this.

And none of those follow a lineage that has taken up so much of my time and financial resources for as long as I can remember. Some poster more eloquent then I said it best..."Flight is FSX with a boob job and a lobotomy". A little nicer to look at (and I am not so sure about that, even if the comparisons to a dolled up FSX are unfair) but a little dumber, too. I am really at a loss over this approach of making FLIGHT more approachable than FSX. FSX can be made to look and feel quite a bit like flight by simply moving all the realism sliders to their minimum and turning off all the traffic. I appreciate the better shore lines and more autogen, but it goes down hill from there for me. MS has made a decision to go in a direction that they think better suits their financial goals. There is nothing that says I have to agree with them or like what they have done to a hobby I hold quite dearly

I find the FM and flight procedures in Flight very realistic compared to FSX stock planes and just because of that I consider Flight a simulator. If you don't like Flight, then that's okay. It's your choice. But there is no need to insult others just because their choices are not the same as yours. Comparing Flight to Sonic is...wrong and disappointing.

Flight is basically getting widely panned by the PC flight sim crowd on various forums. Microsoft will fully expect this though as they know Flight is basically a dumbed down FSX and is aimed for the XBox market. When the Flight PC DLC sales dwindle (that is if they ever really take off) then it wont be long before Microsoft get back to their usual tactic of dropping support for their PC product(s) in favour of their Xbox stuff. Dont like 'em, dont trust 'em for underhand videos and screenshot campaigns they have launched for previous products and I hate they way they treat PC gamers and drop support for things citing lack of resources as the reason. They'll be telling us all that they are a small hard up company next.

So to try the icon aircraft in Flight I am not risking money? Just my time? Sounds like a cool demo.
