Youtube reaches a MUCH wider audience and is more accessible to people who are not native English speakers.
Broader appeal promotes the sim.
Walking an audience through a procedure with video can be exponentially more instructive.
Beach,
Would you be kind enough to post a poll over at DCS's board?
With the HUGE popularity of the instructional Youtube postings...I should think they would be clamoring for more vids like this one.
Cheers mate!

What are you using to capture the video? FRAPS. What do you use to edit video with? An old version of Adobe Premiere (like 5 years old). So old that it doesn't support the FRAPS codec, so I run the FRAPS footage through VirtualDub first to make it usable in Premiere..

The structure of the text AARs is what makes them work so well. You have text describing the action, its significance, and your reaction. Followed by a screenshot or two for illustration. Repeat for the next event.
I think video AARs would be a great addition, but they would need to be presented utilizing the same structure. Have a screen of narrated text to describe the action, followed by a short video clip of those events. Then repeat for the next set of events.

BeachAV8R, what key command do you use with Fraps while in game with DCS? Been trying to figure out what is best key to use since (as you mentioned) the track recording feature in series is pretty much useless.

enigma, folks, There are three features in Fraps that need keyboard assignments - Video Capture, Screen Shots, and Frame Counter on/off/corner location. (Correct me if I'm wrong here, new to Fraps, not at my sim machine.) Right now I am only using Fraps for DCS A-10C. I started out using Caps Lock, Num Lock and Scroll Lock, so I could see my keyboard 'lock' lights when the keys were pressed - especially for the Caps Lock/video mode. But with the Caps Lock on for video the Text Chat was all caps and that was annoying. Since I have a Warthog HOTAS and don't need keys assigned for 1, 2 and 3 (autopilot modes), I switched the Fraps features to use these keys. This was done last weekend so not much time with the new settings... There is an indication when in Fraps video mode - the Frame Counter value turns red (my frame rates drop from about 33 to 25 in video mode). WC

Ideally Id like but if I had to choose I pick the text AAR. I like to read things back at my own pace.

I'm kinda torn between both. They are both fantastic. I like the print version for the ability to print it off and review quicker versus pausing, rewinding or fast forwarding. Not complaining about the video one though either, but admittedly, it took me much longer using the video feedback to get stuff down than re-reading.
Just my input.....

It depends on what the AAR is focused on.
For training and pure action, video works well.
But my IL-2 or RoF AAR's couldn't be done with video, as they're largely about the pilots and their squadron...
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

That is appearing to be the best solution...LOL.. Had the poll been skewed 80/20 or something I could have worked with that..but it is pretty close to being split down the middle. So I might just have to reduce the frequency of the AARs and make them hybrids..
A bit more work, but it is a hobby I enjoy.
Or just alternate... should keep 50% happy at any given time I prefer scrolling slowly through the text, the recent BS2 Deployment AARs you did forced me to cough up for BS2 so I can replay them myself.

Living in a corner of the world where fast internet connection is (for me) an unaffordable luxury, I have to vote for traditional screenshot and text AAR.
