I was sitting on an empty airfield yesterday in my trusty Bf-109, just shooting cannon shells into the distance, when I realised that not only can you see them explode in the distance, you can also HEAR when they go off! With the proper speed-of-sound delay even! So cool that I just had to fire off three mags full...

Another little detail I saw was that my otherwise immaculate dashboard has circular scratches behind the undercarriage twisting handle. Don't know who did that to my Messer but I'll find out! wink

The point Freycinet was making is that the time for the sound to reach the shooter's ears is modelled in this sim, which is impressive. You understood that, right? rolleyes

I also believe it is new that we have explosive shells which go off with an audible boom, but maybe CA_Stary knows of other, better WWII combat flight sims that we haven't heard about?

Was it in Il-2 Classic by the way?

Firing your canon into flower and fauna, wildlife and the likes is fair game IMHO, but I'm rather disturbed to hear about the scratches Frey...Jesus what's wrong with these people...

After playing ArmA for 500 years, not very impressive at all actually.
But I'm not going to roll my eyes.

FPS are typically totally non-comparable with flight simulators. Of course, Arma is basically the only FPS with a Flight Sim style engine / design.

I think the impressive thing is that Il-2 CoD is comparable to the original Arma (not Arma II) in terms of on-the-ground visual quality. Ballistics and damage models will also be superior (although infantry may be completely lacking). So it is a pretty neat accomplishment.

Yes, in the original IL-2 there actually was such an effect modelled for the Mk108 cannon which was later (FB!?) taken out again for whatever reason...

Thanks, Oden. I was responding more to the mean-spirited sarcasm of the comment.
