Definitely nicer textures! I only have realistic water mod on too so these are all Bethesda hi-res textures.

No, none at all which I was surprised about as there is a major difference to the stock textures. The distant landscapes look nicer too.

You can't really see but I tried to show the clothes look far better too with the guard and woman shot. My own armour on the first shot looks a lot crisper.

(did a post just disappear?)

Well, it's a start. I think they are 1024. It's possible to get texture upgrades on Skyrim Nexus that are 2048 or even 4096, though not for everything. I grabbed one texture replacer for rocks that makes some of the rocks, especially indoors in caves, look fantastic. So nice that it looks like there's visible condensation on them. And my frame rates are great. But it's nice to have an official higher-res texture pack as a base, especially for the stuff that the community made texture packs don't yet address.

Actually, i stand corrected. The new texture pack looks really good. Maybe better seen in game than in screenshots (which might be compressed)

Anyone has a file or link? I'd like to try it with my 1.1 (pre-steam locked) version if that will work....

AFAIK it's Steam only, as it is handled as DLC form there.
Couldn't find an external link...

Thanks for trying. It's a shame - the Day1 release version runs so nice without Steam (no hacks required) so I want to keep it off Steam. I guess the "usual suspects" will have to provide the files...

Dunno why people would be using anything other than 1.4. 1.4 fixes alot of quest bugs (finally), the large memory address was implemented in the patch before that and it runs much more stable. I haven't had a crash since 1.2. The game is simply put miles ahead of its release debacle. The only reason you wouldn't want 1.4 is that you don't have a legit copy in the first case.

Now with the hi-res textures the game is beginning to look like a proper PC rpg. The world is simply stunning now.
And with the workshop mods are a breeze. Gone are the days of copying and pasting or using a mod manager. The workshop is the second best thing to come out besides the CK. Then the hi-res pack is a very close third.
I'm just waiting for the UI fixes from the CK to get rid of the awful consolified UI.

Why not run Nexus Mod Manager and install some mods that way? SkyUI is a great way to improve the look of the UI. I also like the adaptive HUD mod, which removes the HUD until you actually do something that requires it, like combat. There are a number of other mods that make the game look like, as you say, a proper PC RPG and not a console game. In SkyUI, I've decreased the size of the font, too.
