New video up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuDSqK9Xp...ture=plpp_video(Click image for vid) OK, it is about time I try the trusted old Hurricane online, in Cliffs of Dover. True, it isn't as sprightly as the Spitfire, but its stability as a gun platform is appreciably better. Against a very well-flown Bf-109 I'd probably prefer the Spit, but for anything less the Hurricane is not bad at all. A winged Messerschmitt was just the opponent that I needed for my first online excursion in the Hurri... - Enjoy! As always, comments very welcome, Cheers, Freycinet ---------- Here are some of my previous CoD movies: (Click images for vids) All videos here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL981CBC682E928D2A&feature=plcp

I watch this movie and Well Done I might add, and have to wonder if the Hurris and Spits really ran that badly in real life, it would seem impossible for them to have won the Battle with planes that were so inferior to the 109's and I say this because the 109 in game is so easy to fly and performs so well where 9 times out of ten I end up with blown engine, engine quitting, pitch/mixture problems etc. on the RAF side and only a few times have I over revved or had a problem with the 109 which resulted in an engine failure.

Not wanting to criticise your skills, but I am pretty sure that RAF pilots back then were MUCH better at running their engines correctly than we will ever be. I know that I pretty much butcher any Brit fighter I sit in, but I am absolutely sure that the RAF pilots were superbly trained to keep within tolerances. I also think that the German pilots who managed to master their steeds became pretty much untouchable by anything but bad luck. Their kill numbers prove it. Those Luftwaffe pilots who managed to fly optimally were almost impossible to beat with anything but brute supremacy of numbers. And it is certainly reflected in CoD that their planes were very fine pieces of machinery. Maybe we should think Mercedes/Audi/BMW vs. Jaguar/Rolls/Morris?

And I'm sure you're right but as it is shown in your video and very often in my game it's difficult to say the least to keep your engine from sputtering with the slightest amount of forward stick or to keep from constantly having to change settings. Maybe this is correct I don't know but there is now a flyable Mk.I Spitfire that has been restored. I would love to see a pilot put it through what would be considered normal operation and see how sensitive it (the engine) is to control inputs. I know that there is a high degree of Pilot workload but is it modeled correctly.

I read a British warbird magazine, latest issue (and sorry, lent it out and cannot recall right now which one it is), where a pilot did exactly that, took the newly-restored Spit I up for a ride and described normal ops in-depth. Very interesting article! As to how to run the Hurri correctly, I just got this in reply to my movie, posted on another forum: Very nice video Freycinet...I always like that they are complete and unedited .no matter the outcome..heh also on the Hurri, the throttle mixture is backwards i believe. It runs the best with it all the way down. Oh and one other thing, keep your RPMs around 2600 and the boost on the white arrow that is in the red. She will be alot happier for you.. S! Keep up the good work! 352ndRibbs So, those are things I didn't know at all, but now I do! I remember reading that a P-38 Lightning pilot had to pull and push something like 18 levers and buttons just to go from cruise flight to combat flight, and that this was the reason why a whole lot of them got bounced and shot down over Germany: they simply were to slow to react to an attack. A great part of the charm of CoD is that it better replicates the actual work load of a WWII pilot, so that we who fly it get a better idea of what it really was like, IMHO. And yes, I know of course that we are no-where near having a real idea, but it is all relative, and I think we are much closer to actual combat ops with CoD than with Il-2 Classic, where you almost just pushed the throttle forward and forgot about it. From all I've read that wasn't the case in real life.

Another excellent video, Spitfires are nice but the Hurricane is just more 'workman' like. Here's one for you, I took it in 2010 when I had the rare experience of seeing four Hurricanes airborne together (2 x BBMF, 2 x Civi). It was a rehersal for the Duxford show the next day, unfortunately on the day one of 'ours' decided it didn't want to fly and so the crowds saw a three ship display instead. BTW, the flights 'baby' fighter pilots get let loose on the Hurricane first and only convert to the baby Spitfires after they've proven themselves on Sir Sydney Camms' finest.

Cool! - I didn't know that. I love the Hurri too, but a looker it isn't and won't ever be... - But it was certainly the plane that won the BoB!

Another great video, Frey. You really capture the essence of what it's like flying in Cliffs of Dover. Love the annotations -- really adds flavour to the action.

Thanks Snapper, and excellent guncam vid you posted yourself: http://vimeo.com/34734845I must sat it is impressive that you programmed your HOTAS to start Fraps every time you shoot! L33T programming 5KILL5! I myself would probably get rid of the chat window though, for the visuals... - But, hey if you fly with it then that's that. I remain blissfully unaware of what is going on in chats and teamspeak when I fly on your server...

Thanks, Frey. The chat/server window is a royal psin, although I monitor it closely for a number of reasons - gameplay, ATAG reasons (ie alert to players' problems, abuses, etc). If I were VERY clever I'd figure out a way to hide/render visible the window when I press & release the trigger. An easier thing may just to enlarge the viewing area and put the chat window outside the visible 4:3 viewing area.
Good input -- thanks!

Very nice video mate. One thing that struck me particularly is that when CoD came out ( and/or shortly before ), there was a tidal wave of commentary by people who thought the terrain/ground/scenery was terrible - yet in your video the ground looks perfectly realistic, the towns look very good and the "fields of England" also look pretty authentic to me. ( and I would have accepted IL2 terrain if that's what was needed to deliver CoD FM's and DM's ) How "cutting edge" would you describe your PC in order to render it all as your video shows ( I've held off buying CoD not because I think it's #%&*$#, but because my Dual-Core XP machine would probably scream and die - but I may be upgrading soon... )

Yes, isn't it funny how "commentary" falls flat when held up against "how it actually looks"? My specs: Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz Memory (RAM) 6.00 GB Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 SSD I run CoD in 1920x1080, pretty much all settings on "high".

Thanks for that - I'll be getting an i5 2500K + 8Gb Ram shortly and may be able to push for an nVidia 460 ( 500's are just too pricey atm ). That should let me get back into the skies Tbh, I couldn't see the reason for most of the CoD terrain criticism at the time, seems to me people just automatically compared it to "reality" rather than "what has gone before in flight sims" ie. IL2 - and even that made enormous strides, comparing the Slovakia and Norway maps with the stock stuff shows that. I think it's a bit weird and maybe shows unrealistic expectations. I always figured "It's a game, it's never going to be like reality, but it is going to be better than what we had". Of course, I've been proven wrong, it looks damn close to reality (disclaimer : for a flight sim )
