Hi everyone.

A while ago I damaged my front computer headphone output and it no longer works.

I recently decided I wanted to get into online gaming - for which i'll need a headset, but obviously the standard ones will be impossible for me to use as the mic input is gone so ideally I would need one with just a USB output.

Does anyone own or know of such a product?

Thank you!

I use a Logitech G930, it's USB. It's also wireless and has great range when away from the pc. My two complaints are that the Logitech software and drivers for the headset, and the battery life suck. A brand new set would go several days before needing a charge, it seems now I can barely go a day before needing to recharge it. Even after purchasing replacement batteries. Some say that it's not really the battery but the software thinking it's the battery, however my headset will shut off if I don't start charging it after the 3rd audible warning.

Bloody hell - rather expensive for what it is!!

I wonder if there's something similar for a little less money - and preferably without the battery problem!

Thank you

Lots of USB headset solutions out there. I just received a G930 like Panther has for X-Mas, its expensive but a great set. My last set is over 5-6 years old but I imagine if your just looking for a cheap replacement you'll find plenty of available options!

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

I used a voucher to get the Gioteck EX-05

It was £39.95 over here in a sale reduced from £69.95 but I'm sure you'd be able to find it cheaper if you're in the US.

It's compatible with the PS3, 360 and PC .........for PC it connects via a single USB connector, automatically installs drivers and is amplified stereo. It has a little control box which gives seperate volume controls for the voice and game audio. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, it's really impressive.

I believe there is also a 5.1 version coming soon

Another option if you still want to use your old headset is a USB Sound Card Adaptor. I got mine on ebay for $2.00 plus $2.00 shipping.

Don't the cases today come with separate headphone/mic jacks as well? I know mine does. So I have the option of plugging in my headphone/mic in the back (direct to motherboard) of the PC case, or in the front.

Corsair HS1 (Not HS1A) 'Surround Sound' and fantastic at the price.

All you need imo, as long as you don't want to spend mega money. tuner

I used the G930 for a while, but with the drivers being so poor -- I had to re-install the drivers EVERY time I wanted the surround feature to work, I gave up and went back to my wired gaming headset. Also, I couldn't get my butt kicker to work with the wireless headset.

The soundblaster Arena headset is a good USB surround headset.

Logitech G35. Relatively inexpensive and good sound. Less than $100 as I recall.

I also have a Logitech but I'm not sure which one. If I recall it was around $40. It plugs right into the USB and has worked just fine for a few years. Picked it up at Best Buy.

I use a Sennheiser PC 163D. It comes with a small USB soundcard where you plug in the two jacks from the Headset. Not very cheap, but I can only recommend it. It's very comfortable to wear even over long periods, it is compatible with the TrackClip Pro and both the mic and the headphones give a superb sound quality.

I wouldn't go for a usb-headset for the simple reason you can buy a USB-dongle and use it both ways. If you ever buy a good soundcard you'll be happy you can plug it in there as well.

As for my advice: Sennheiser PC360. Best there is. End of discussion smile

Sure, that'll end it. On the internet. :P

A good stereo headset with a separate mike, like the Zalman ZM-MIC1, is also a good option. That way you can take into account the headset can be used for music too, when you set your budget. Not everyone has a budget that stretches to Grado SR225i, Sennheiser HD 650, Beyerdynamic DT1350 or AKG 701/702 prices though, so that means selecting a budget and seeing which headphones score best in that range.

That's what I'm using as well. G35. Very happy with it.

I use this as well, got it at Best Buy on sale for $85 if I remember correctly. Sounds really good, I could hear more sounds using these than a good 2.1 THX certified desktop setup.

I have these Zalman mics in my flight decks because I like to fly with a ball cap on with the Track IR Hat Clip. I'll wear the full headset those times when I can't bother the rest of the house (CO/wife) with the explosions or screeching tires.

These mics work great and they will be overridden when a USB headset with mic is plugged in. The TeamSpeak 'Volumes, Plugin Control' works well to tone down the sim volumes when transmitting over the Zalman mic.
