Wow, thanks. Now that's whats up! Looks real nice. Can you post a pic of your connectors and how you have them plugged into your rig? I'm thinking 3 monitors will have 3 individual plug, how are they to plug into one or even two outputs? Any links to gear required to do this would be helpful too. BTW, how is your framerate with your config? Nice Martini too...

Its just 3 dvi connectors,2 go to 1 card and one to the other card.. The frame rate is ok in A10, have to run about medium-ish settings for 5760x 1080 res. My pc is i7970 @ 3.8, 12 gigs ram and 2 gtx470 cards Edit- That ain't a martini, its a cocktail

It took me the better part of a weekend working with surround in the Nvidia settings, to get a suitable resolution that is both readable for the instruments and allows smooth playability. Once it's set though, it is fantastic to play in. Matt

Ok, down to the wire now. Which one of these should I get? The later ones show better cpu speeds and can take faster memory but the i7 970 shows better bus ratio. Any help would be appreciated: Intel i7 CPU Comparison BTW, the number of pipes and threads are insane with the i7 970. It also has larger memory bandwidth and 3 mem channels versus 2 on the others. One would think that it would be much, much faster. Perhaps with the Geforce GTX590 series you mentioned your rigs would use the extra bandwidth? I'm now nervous because you guys indicated that you had to really tweak things with that particular pentium to get DCS going.

If your budgeting around those CPU's, go for the I5 2500k Sandybridge. The main difference between that chip and the I7 2600k is that the latter has hyperthreading and an extra 2Mb cache so unless you are also into image/video editing/Folding then the additional threads would never/barely get used anyway. They also support much higher memory speeds than the 970.
Because of that, the I5 2500k can often get the same benchmarks/framerates in games, if budget comes into it then I'd go down that route and put the extra $100 into the graphics card or extra RAM.
When we're talking about the difference of 1 or 2 fps when running at 60-100fps in games especially when paired with top-end cards, I'd personally not entertain that as 'valuable' when there is a difference of a few $100. The I5 2500k and I7 2600K are easily overclocked too, with both of them hitting 4.3Ghz - 4.8GHz on air with one click of a button within the software apps that ship with supporting motherboards. Seconded. All there is to be said about it, really.

Thanks guys, I hadn't even considered th i5. But that sounds like it makes total sense. I actually am going from a single core with hyper threading technology. Got burnt on that concept when I got it thinking that developers would go that route. So, we are talking major boost even with an i5. Here's that comparison again with the i5 included: Intel Chip Comparison

Darn it. Time to run a PO past the Comptroller again. How about those three monitor setups where they are side-by-side vertical? I think I'd like this setup better... three monitors vertical Wrecking Crew

3 x 30" in vertical But another want is to have a monitor for Teamspeak, the manual, etc... I have a single 30" now. Also have a 22" I'm not using but would like to have that be an extra display. Tomorrow I'm tearing down my computer and blowing out all the dust from the past year, maybe I'll get the 22" added in when I put it all back together. My one 30" monitor puts out some heat so I've had a fan on it that was a small AC plug in. Found these USB fans work pretty well and will go with more of them - the AC fan was too loud so I'm using two of these now - The fans help keep the Track IR cool, too, from the heat that comes from the monitor. Ok, now on the video card. The GTX590 or Radeon HD 6990? I noticed that the 6990 only has one monitor port. How can you do surround gaming with that card? Also, you will get a kick out of this video discussing the two: Furher Speaks About the Cards: Germany's Recommendation(Link)

Do not get either card. OK, a qualification is in order here. If you are playing other games then a 6990 would be the card to go for if you can justify the cost. A10 will not utilize the two gpu's in the 6990 so it will in fact perform worse than a single 6970. I run a 6970 at ~ 6000x1080 as well as a 4th touchscreen at 1920x1080. You can see a pretty #%&*$# video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4ecRV89rY0 I get a constant 30fps as I have it capped at 30fps. All four monitors off a single card. If I was you and you were going to spend that money I would buy the just released 7970 with 3gb vram, this comes in handy with eyefinty and extreme resolutions. It seems to have a healthy improvement over the 6970 and will be cheaper than the two you listed. EDIT. deleted the part where I said 590 might need 2 cards for surround, it doesnt by the look of it. For triple screens I really think ati is the way to go right now.

I noticed that the 6990 only has one monitor port. How can you do surround gaming with that card? One DVI, 4 mini-DP connectors: If all displays in the setup were to be DVI-only, one would need an adapter for each additional display. Yes and I would argue that if you are buying new monitors for the setup, get ones that have displayport. I think it will be cheaper considering active Displayport to DVI adapters go for like $50 a piece, and considering you need at least 2 of them for a three monitor setup you can spend those $100 on monitors that have DP already. Btw most Dell Monitors have Displayport on them, so no need for adapters if you go down that route, and the Ultrasharp ones that are around the 23-24" range are actually pretty cheap and very high quality IPS-panel displays, especially within the price range of about $200.

Its no longer necessary to use an active DP-to-DVI/HDMI, for resolutions up to and including 1920x1200. Those passive adapters cost less than 20$. Here is an AMD approved list, but includes active adapters. But for anyone looking at a new display, is well advised to check the screen they want has at minimum DP and DVI.

Are you certain about the above info? I could not get two HD6970's to run three monitors with a non-active adapter. Getting an active adapter from Amazon (about $30 as I recall) fixed everything. All three of my monitors are 1920X1200. This is on a computer delivered in early December with 11.X drivers.
