Combat flight sims from the “flying telephone pole” point-of-view.

"Cat" reviews the unique surface-to-air missile simulation.

The review is not good, it's excellent.

And I'm really impressed! So there is a lone developer, who does this in his spare time - and then gives it away for free. Granted, I myself prefer something more sim-lite and less complicated in my playtime, but I definitely appreciate the effort, sweat and hard (coding) work which "Hpasp" put into this. For a hardcore-simmer this software must be marvellous.

If anyone wants more info head on over to the Sam Sim thread: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3479046/1.html

The progress that Hpasp has made since the initial version at the start of the thread is amazing. He's still going to smile

It IS a great review!

I confess, the first thing I thought about when finishing it was - 'I wonder if any of what he is doing would be at all portable to network connectivity with some of the other sims out there'? Something like Free Falcon or the DCS games...

That'd really increase the pucker factor of the pilots out there, with an integrated air defense network controlled by actual humans...heh...

This one is basically Dwarf Fortress of air combat simulator world!

Excellent review except for a few technical inconsistencies, at least with the sim's manual...looks like the information from wikipedia is referenced from released western intelligence data, and we all know how inaccurate those can get in some cases. wink

Whoa, this is interesting! Btw, would the sim flat out refuse to play under 1024X768 res? That's the highest my Napoleon-era monitor can handle. And I hope I can play it without prejudice, never feel good at shooting at any American plane..I never even flew that Sukhois and MiG in LOMAC.

Excellent review. One correction about S75. it's not "Radio-command guided with terminal semi-active radar homing" It's just command guided.

This is SOOOO cool. Back in my first flight sim days of the first release of Falcon I was hoping a SAM sim would come out. I was making the point back then of how difficult it would be to hit a jet with a ground based missile. I am glad I lived long enough to see the day

Thanks, all.

Re the S-75's guidance system, I thought we'd changed that, frankly. Woops.

Hpasp has released SAMSIM v923 which adds the SA-75M Dvina (SA-2F) and the historic biggest bombing scenario post WWII.
