The new assignments can be unlocked on the old maps as well, if that's what you mean. I've noticed it helps to do the old maps, because you may be more familiar/effective with them.

I haven’t seen this problem at all really. I tend to stick to servers with smaller player counts though. 24 seems to be my maximum.

If you jump onto a public 64 player server, you’re just asking for trouble. Public servers are like a can of worms so the lesser the player count, the easier it is to manage and weed out the bad ones High (unorganized) player counts just lead to random Call of Duty style mayhem anyway ...

It may just be me picking the wrong servers then! but at the moment not got a lot of choice over here, since B2K came out the number of servers over here has fallen throught he floor, most servers are also empty so not a lot of choice on which ones to join with a decent ping !

If 64 man conquest large maps interest you search for the follwong servers. They are Europe based so ping not an issue and so far apart from the odd idiot gameplay tends to be ok.
