...accidentally, on this damNED phone! Stupid thing has a touch screen and if you use any kind of security, like a pattern or PIN to lock the phone, there's an auto-dial 911 button on there. Got disconnected from my wife tonight and it popped up and I accidentally hit it. Again. Only way to disable that is to leave the phone unlocked, which I don't like either. Fine with me if you have to be able to DIAL 911, but having that instant dial on there is ridiculous. They pick up fast around here too, I didn't even know it had called! Probably tagged as a possible axe murderer by now. [/rant]

What kind of phone ? 911 has already tagged your number. They get them all the time. Just hope when you have a real emergency, you are not locked out.
Called them already today and they read my number back me and make sure the number I am using is registered to you, My work phone, had to explain it all. I am tagged already, 911 operator, oh yeah, you normally call to report a dead body. Not vandalism.

I stay on the line, when I see what I've done and give them my name, a couple of times they asked for my address. I just apologize, feel stupid and comply. This is a Samsung Galaxy or something, they have some other name for it too. Between this and a barely 1 day battery life, I'm not too crazy about "smart" phones. I guess it's smarter than I am, but this does seem to be a common complaint.

I have the same problem with a Sony Ericsson touch screen. One day I racked up $100 in calls that it made accidentally while the damn thing was in my pants! I say if the screen responds to any sort of touch other than your fingers, keep a lid on it ... like they did back on the original Star Trek ...

LOL My biggest problem used to be taking pictures while it was in my pocket. One day I noticed I had over 100 pictures of pocket lining.

My first smart phone called the local radio station and I was on the line with the phone ringing for over an hour. I wouldn't have noticed it if it wasn't for my pocket getting warm. I pulled out the phone and saw connected to 105.7, time of call 0:58 minutes. I thought damn don't they normally disconnect the call after a few rings if they don't want to pick it up.

At work we have the phone system where you have to dial 9 to get an outside line, and then 1 if it is long distance. People are constantly calling 911 on accident no matter how many times you explain you only dial 1 once. The big thing is that people freak out and hang up so the police have to call us back to make sure there is no emergency.

If it's a Galaxy? Should be an Android phone then. Try this free app from the market called Call Confirm that adds a confirmation to outgoing calls: Call Confirm Also there's Tiny Call Confirm that's also a free app that does the same thing, it just looks different and also adds confirmation for incoming calls as well as outgoing.

Thank you! The last thing this phone needs is another layer in calling *normal* numbers, but it's probably still worth it. Would be nice to be able to use the other emergency number slots and just apply the app to 911 and those numbers so I could stay locked. Maybe that will come out one day. edit: already there in the plus version of that second one, great news! Exclude Contacts and USSD codes
