I've held off buying this sim because of all the reported issues, like crashes, stutters and freezes. I understand there have been patches released dealing with some of the issues.
My question is: how is the game doing now since the patches? AND -- do the patches install automatically through Steam?
Thanks, Crockett12

Runs fine on my modest gaming laptop. My biggest complaint has been the AI, but I've found the tweaks that work for me...
- never use 'ace' setting, this setting causes the most unrealistic AI behaviour like the F16 snap rolls and constant barrel rolling. - best choice is veteran. - if you are the kind who likes to look 'under the hood' in the mission builder, use custom AI. Choose veteran, and then adjust vision to max, gunnery to max, bravery to max and (strangely) discipline to zero. This will give you a competent AI with good situational awareness and aggression. Setting gunnery to max does not seem so much to improve their aim (they don't become snipers) but rather gives better conservation of ammo, which means they don't hose their target, like they do at lower settings.

Wow, that second video looked absolutely great!
Glad you liked it. More will be coming along over the coming weeks... I am having a blast on-line. Absolutely the best online playing ever. A dream come true: that of vicariously flying in the BoB...

Thanks, Crockett12 The game's in a pretty good state right now. Steam handles all the patching automatically. It's still not perfect, though. Some people (not all) report frame rate issues, and there's a bug where the game has a tendency to crash after long flights. The work around is to simply restart the game after 2 hours or so, which isn't really a problem at all for multiplayer.

has FSAA been fixed yet? has crossfire been fixed yet? has the texture memory requirements been reduced to levels that'll allow todays video cards to not stutter with texture swapping? does the sound still cut out? online crews still floating in mid-air?
What WW2 Fighter pilots say about Angels and Airspeed:
"Nice job of getting down to the basics - love your choice of a cover!" Col. Clarence 'Bud' Anderson
"I have enjoyed reading angels and airspeed, it should prove good reading for all interested in combat tactics and their application related to the fluid air environment and state of technology in WWII years. All the best as you make it available." - Col. Charles McGee - Tuskegee Airman
NEVER ENGAGE STUPID.

If you have a decent system, you can still enjoy many of the features that are working in COD, while waiting for further updates. If you fly online its even better, as many of the unworking features are not required. My COD online experiences have been much better than they ever were with IL-2 1946. The game is still a work in progress. If your a combat flight simmer only then its a must, if you enjoy other genres more, then play them until COD is more refined. If you would like to see COD survive, buy it now and put it on the shelf until its improved.

Frey, when you attacked with speed advantage in the second clip, why didn't you go vertical (to keep speed and advantage of position) and roll back towards him? Now you put yourself in harms way? My words exactly, why didn't I, eh, he do that?? - What a fool!

Frey, Even Viper had to drill it into Maverick to extend on occasion. I think slider said it best though, "gutsiest move I ever saw, man"
Horrido!

I got far more satisfaction from bagging couple of Ju88s and turning the tables on a 109 who thought he got the jump on me yesterday on ATAG than any number of successful missions on the far more polished BF3 ever could. Support this game and the rewards will come.
