Anyone ever get FCG to work with a radeon 8500? I'm missing it since upgrading from my Voodoo 5500.....

I have some general suggestions at my FCG site. Have you replaced the smackw32.dll file?

Yes...I have replaced the smacker file.

The sim starts up fine, including the intro video. However, as soon as it tries to initialise the 3d graphics, I get a black screen and the machine locks. Only way out is to hit the reset button.

Software graphics mode works fine. It is, however, ugly!

Deleted file slave16.exe?

OK, I would suggest the old reinstall trick (if you haven't tried ) unistall, wipe out any traces in the registry, install, patch, smacker, reinstall of direct x, no-cd fix, delete slave16.exe. Reboot every step.

Yep, slave16 deleted. Haven't tried the full re-install trick yet though, but I'm not hopeful.

Dave Whiteside is helping me via parallel postings on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.flight-sim

He has just tried FCG on an 8500 and it does the same for him as well.

It may be time to look out an old V2 on e-bay. This sim is too good to die.

OK, Dave is still around! Great! He would be the support guru if anyone... ...could it be the video drivers - ask ATI perhaps. Hope you get it to work in the end!

Yep, an e-mail has gone into the great black hole that is ATI tech support. I have received an auto-repsond which states that I can expect a reply in around 10 days time.

I am not holding my breath!

I'll let you know if I fix it. I'm not too optimistic though. Dave Whiteside's gone quiet now....so I guess he can't get it to work either.

No problem, he's a busy man and getting FCG to run on new hardware is not what he's paid to do! Sadly now, it's not what anyone is paid to do

Well, I have now given up all hope of getting this to work on the Radeon.

I've bought a used Voodoo2, which should be arriving soon. No FSAA, but at least it will work (and was very cheap!)
