Just a heads up for all the guys using one of these units, this sim just loves it. I was worried about which key or function would be needed to recenter the view. Fact is you don't need one, it's just rock solid and doesn't lose the center, using an active IR lamp.

No other sim has given me such a in jet feel. Padlock just pales when compared to tracking, far smoother. Kudos to all who fixed this game, some of the new features rock with the trackir. The padlock box remaining on the bandit with padlock off is a Track IR users ultimate feature. I can mark target and engage while keeping track of several bogeys and clearing six.

Also thanks for the mouse axis reversal and speed setting features, mighty nice of you. I don't know if you set out to make it great with a Trackir, but you succeeded.

Ummm... could you outline how you do this ? When I press ESC I don´t get the box anymore... as it should be...

Retro that feature you implemented is one of the best, along with the increased FOV.

I'll teach you how to use your feature :

Press s to padlock...press s to de-padlock . The diamond remains, at least in pan mode, what is the mode I use. Nevertheless, if you press the sticky keys (ins, del...) for views, the diamond will not show, you'll have to pan to that angle.

The greatest shortcoming MiG Alley has about dogfighting is the bogeys disappearing over the ground, due to the odd LOD settings. Couple it with the lack of icons above aircraft, it's very difficult to track the enemy (more than in reality i guess). Icons and modified LODs would be a nice feature for future BDG MA's releases, in the meantime, the "remaining diamond feature" is a good workaround.

greetings

Yep, thats exactly how it works, just eyeball the mig you want and double bump the padlock center key. You can tangle against him and his wingman.

Not got track IR. Anyone got a system they don't use anymore?

Well it´s still a bug...

You can circumvent the LOD problem by copying the higher res (player-only) MiG model over the AI one.... I did a FSM for this (I think in the 'others' section).. the problem is that in the campaign you will lose the changing AI paintschemes..

This feature is still in an early stage (major resource hog and some bad sideeffects) but it should make it in the next major release I think - no promises though

Retro you're the best! Even the bugs you introduce are good!

I've downloaded the high-res MiG-15... but you have linked it wrongly in your page. Its linked to "highpolymig.zip" while the actual name of the file is "highpolymigs.zip".

greetings

OK as I´m no a proud owner of a TrackIR unit (thanks to the guys at naturalpoint ) I resurrect this thread...

My problem is that I get an annoying amount of jitter... is there any way around that ?

BTW I´ve changed the handling of the Padlock Center function somewhat... I´m afraid the 'doubletap-trick' won´t work anymore... but the labels should work..

You're right, it is more jittery than BoB. That is very smooth with TIR.

An active IR bulb will smooth it out, the unit works better with one. Simple to make and dirt cheap.

Mouse movement tracking is indeed more 'coarse' in MiG than BoB.. don´t know right now how to correct this.. (or if we should as all, since everyone who is going to notice this is likely using TrackIR and I hope we will be able to support this device more directly later..)

Then I´ve noticed that removing the 'targeting diamond' might not be a good idea... dogfighting sure gets much more confusing without it... comments ?

Starting to like that little diamond, aye. I find it pretty handy to have also, really frees you up to keep your eyes peeled in a fight.

Have a question about the mouse speed pan factor. Does a high value make it faster? I really can't tell the difference between a 1.0 and a 5.0. Can one set it lower than 1 to a fraction or is 1.000 minimum.

I think it only affects coolie hat panning and values smaller than 1 like 0.5 should be ok.

Copy that, any possibility of mouse pan speed control, or are they run externaly? I know I can control it with the TrackIR software, I'm experimenting with a competing device however.

Which one would that be? Enlighten us poor sods, please, I for one am on the look-out for stuff like this.

@Osram
Mig Alley and Mouse control drove me up the walls, I couldn't get it to work at all.
The bdg.txt has a line in it #INVERT_VIEW_PITCH
removing the "#" didn't help, the manual says that this switch set to "ON" will do the thing, but, alas, no.
However, when I was about to give up I found that altering the line to

MA_INVERT_VIEW_PITCH

did work. At the risk of becoming the most feared reader of manuals of BoB and MA, is it just me or could this passage be re-written? As it is now it was a bit confusing to me and maybe to others as well.

Hope this helps
Prion

Works rather well, but a bit fast, could use some way to slow it down. The only game it really shines in is IL-2, that has mouse pan speed control settings in game.
