Hello all.
I was wondering whether anyone might have a fix for a texture issue I'm having. Just reinstalled JF18 to my newer computer and everything is great except if I try to enable "sparkling Water". Then I get the ocean broken up into a huge grid pattern that flashes on and off (kinda like when the holodeck malfunctions on Star Trek :})I never had the problem with my old P2, Win 98, Voodoo 2 machine. My current specs. are as follows: 1.7 GHz P4, 64MB GeForce 3, Win XP Home Edition. BTW my Video drivers are up to date. Thanks for any tips.
Vin

Thats your problem Vin...your video card drivers are TOO Up to date.

Use 30.xx or below. I find that the 28.32 drivers work best for me. I have a GEforce 3 Ti200.

And I don't care what these older drivers are going to do to your other games.....whats important here is that Janes F/A 18 works best!! ;\)

Be advised Vin that if you play newer games like BF1942 for example. Going back to older drivers will vause some newer games to not even startup at all. Your only option is really to turn off FSAA if you want to play F18

Just did some research on nVidia's site after reading a post in another thread about version 42.86 drivers fixing the water problem. It turns out that this is an nVidia "Detonator" driver. What's the difference between this and the regular drivers and will it work with the GeForce3? Also I read that turning off anti-aliasing helps. Anyone know how to do this? I don't see a choice within Hornet and I didn't see it in my GeForce properties windows.
Thanks.
Vin

All Nvidia drivers have been known as "Detonator" for some time now, just like ATI drivers are known as "Catalyst".

It means nothing really.

And yes, they will work on your GeForce 3, but as previous posters have pointed out, the 30.xx drivers or below seem to run F/A-18 best.

Hi Vin,

Here's what i know about the NVidia 4286 Drivers.
They are one of the newer NVIDIA drivers, probably adjusted by some young kid to tweak graphics settings to the max for a particular system. I run on a Dell Inspiron 8000 Laptop with a GForce 4 Go card. The 4286 drivers don't automatically support this card. THere is another site out there from a person who specifically "hacks" drivers to fit other cards. So, I went to his site and downloaded the nv4_disp.inf file that points the driver files to me specific card. I opened it with notepad, and unfortuantely your GForce 3 card is not listed. Yoiu may be able to find a hacked file that will allow this driver to run your card, but you'll have to search aroudn for it.

Turning off Anti-Aliasing should be fairly simple. Left click on your desktop space . Select Display Properties, then advanced and check some of the tabs there, one of them should have GFroce Settings, and you can set the AA modes, mine is OFF, or let applications control it, or set it to 2X, 4X and a few other settings. Simply put a check in the Off boax and you might clear up the OCean Grid lines...

Hope this helps,

Rotor..

If you give me your specifics, I may be able to find a driver that will work with your card.

This thread has me somewhat confused. I just bought a ti4200 and the only time I see the grid lines in the water is when I turn OFF antialiasing or quincunx. That seems to be the opposite of what you all are reporting here.
