Hi guys,

I have the box version of the game. When I installed it,it gave me two sets of icons. My game only worked with the x86 version. When I try the other one, after the small black window disappears (like normal) nothing happens. Thats ok I thought, it still works with the x86 icons.

So recently after finding out patch 1.1.1.0 was out, I decided to do a complete uninstall and download the full game from DCS. The problem is the download only gave me the set that doesn't work ie not the x86. Any ideas what to do would be greatly appreciated.

What are your computer specs? You are not running win 64 bit I guess?

The installer can install both 32-bt and 64-bit versions of the game, there is no separate 64-bit installer. Download the full game, preferrably via .torrent so that it can check for a corrupted file/download. Then install via the A-10C_full_en.exe file, not one of the .bin files.

I also decided to go for a full re-install with 1.1.1.0 version, but kept getting corrupted files and time-outs via the FTP and HTTP links. Now downloading via .torrent at snail pace. Estimated time 2 weeks, doh
Couldn't get my A-10C fix this weekend, bummer.

Good luck

Cheers,
Slug

My specs are:

Intel(R)Core(TM)i5 CPU M430@2.27GHz 4.00GB (3.86GB usable)
64bit operating system. win 7

So why does it play the 32bit game only?

How do you know you're playing with the 32-bit version?

For Win7 64 - If you start up the game then go to task manager and have a look at your processes the DCS executable will have a *32 next to it if it's running 32 bit. Otherwise you're running the 64bit exe.

Isn't the x86 version for 32-bit ? The icons that work are named DCS A-10 x86. The ones that don't are named DCS A-10.

That's what I thought, the x86 was 32 bit but Wynttr is correct that the task manager will tell you exactly what is running, either 32 or 64 bit. It won't say 64 bit but it will tell you if it's running 32 bit.

Just to clarify, you are saying that the latest install didn't give an option for 32 bit executables so there is no icon with x86 and the only icon you are given does not actually load the sim properly?

Have you checked the bin directory under the main installation directory to see if there is the other executable in there? I don't know of there is or not and my sim computer is turned off so I can't check.

From and including 1.1.0.9, the installers and patchers will autodetect the OS type and install the appropriate version.

As far as the patchers go, this means that if you patch from a version earlier than 1.1.0.9, trying to launch x86 will give a crash - since those files would still be of the old version.

On your 6 o'clock, messing wit...
If you are on 64 bit windows, only the 64 bit version will be installed, and if you are on 32bit windows, only a 32bit version will be installed. You had the choice back in the beta's, but that got taken out.

What they said.

If you're on 32-bit, then you get 32-bit. If on 64-, then the installer gives you 64-.

Yes, thats correct (second paragraph). I'm going to have someone with more knowledge than myself at this to have a look at my comp. Possibly I havn't completely uninstalled all files from the disc version and this could be causing the conflict.

Thanks metainwood but problem solved.

Like I suspected, there must have been a confliction between the disk and the full download. I had to roll back to factory settings. It works fine now.1.1.1.0 is up and running. Thank you all for your sugestions and advice.
