I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

Cool, always nice to hear from Luthier, and they seem committed to continue to work on this sim for the next while. That's exciting.

'It got thrown out with a lot of other bad code' This is an interesting statement

Yeah, I noted that, too. Still, it seems they're on the right track. thumbsup

Yup, the game on release was a seriously flawed product. That statement cemented it for me. Glad they're on track, saw what they had was bad, and not leaving the flawed product - and us and our money, hanging.

Well, I think I'll go ahead and delete CloD from my hard drive then.

I'll just re-install once "the big one" hits.

There's just too many awesome games out right now to bother with CloD, given a major overhaul just crested the Horizon.

Admitting it was a flawed game only backs up those of us who said it stunk from the beginning. It also destroys the fanboys who insisted it was pretty good, especially the one who rated it 80% in PC Pilot!

The critics were right all along.

Like AggressorBLUE, I will wait till everything is fixed before I spend my money on this unfinished product.

Good to hear some news - the new graphics engine sounds like some serious re-writing, but at least 3 weeks away before a peek at the beta.

Let's wait and see.

Yes, of course the critics were right from the outset (and before release). The fans did the game a disservice by protecting it so heavily, whatever the intention.

Easy to say now, but boy was there noise at the time...ah, the wonders of hindsight smile

OF course the total numbers of people who did not have something critical to say about the game equals 1 or so lol biggrin

Well that's nice but seeing now as how it really appears they intended this sequel to be primarily for people that fly multi-player I will still have to pass.I don't know why they took away DGEN and the ability to fly any kind of campaign you like with a semi-dynamic career. They totally neglected offline players with COD.Instead they hacked out what made IL-2 great and left consumers with 2 scripted stories that they call a campaign and a ton of broken problems.

Ill have to stick to the older IL-2 with the Ultrapack mod.Its far superior. smile

Ultrapack mod is very good. There are (at least) three community created Dynamic Campaigns for CoD, plus some very good Single Player missions - start here:

Sequell will be primarily for multiplayer?
Is that true?
I spent a lot of money on CloD,box set and even new pc that runs things smoothly even though, off line, there is nothing worth playing.I hoped that would get improved on and that a decent off line campaign would some day arrive.
Off line players contribute and support. Are we some kind of second class player now.Is our money no longer needed?
Sorry about this,I wish the multiplayer boys all the very best, but as one who only plays off line I feel pushed aside.

No, here is the multiplayer game (based on Wings of Prey, which was marketed under the Il-2 brand - but done by a different team):
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/189/1/Gaijin_Flight_Series.html

Cliffs of Dover (and its planned sequels) have strong variety of offline features. The mission format is open - so we can expect 3rd party linear campaigns, dynamic campaign generators (and even possibly a strategic campaign). Il-2 had four different campaign generators - all developed by third parties (and one was later incorporated into the sim).

It was quite noisy wasn't it biggrin A lot of us knew it was flawed but could see the potential and also knew the developers would continue to support it so i am calling it 50/50 wink I think the stayers will always remember those mad couple of months lol.

Ahh yeh, that being said .. the 80 % reviews were a bit of a joke. But i think there was enough at 40-50 that balanced that out. smile

Any care to cut n paste what Luthier posted? I'm reading from work and get page blocked.

RE: flawed game. Everyone knew it was flawed and a f*cked up release but it is still playable. The flight is there, the combat is there, the multiplayer is there. All they'd be doing now is making it better and the only way they can go is forward - which they have been.
Bar a few hiccups every patch has been for the better. The latest sound overwork of the 109 is unparalleled in any WW2 game.

Personally I haven't played the game for a long time (not until they fix sli/cf) but I could see the potential. All the official reviews I read of it did announce it's flaws but saw the potential in it. I remember one describing it as a diamond in the rough but right now it's still got a lot of dirt on it.

Hi everyone,

Quick status update.

We are aware of the issues many of you are having. We are monitoring the forums, and we are checking the crash dumps you are sending, for which we are especially grateful.

The crashes are caused by an old graphics bug that’s been in the game all year. Since we are in the process of seriously overhauling graphics, we cannot release a quick fix. The bug simply doesn’t exist in the current version of the graphics at all. It got thrown out with a lot of other bad code, but the overall feature isn’t ready for the world quite yet.

We’re also improving the sound quite a bit, doing exciting things with aircraft, and generally progressing along the same fronts I’ve listed in my older updates.

These are all major features so they take time. We only have a tentative ETA at this point, but considering this forum’s special relationship with the word “tentative” I’m not going to say what it is. It’s not this Friday or the next – take that as you will. We’ll keep you updated as we get closer.

Thanks Heinkill. I guess some word is better than none at all.

Will keep an eye out and see how it progresses.
