All the armor/chopper/jet stuff is compressed . . . necessary to make it fit on the map. Realistically, even WWII tanks would often duel well beyond the ranges we see in game, and a real M-1 (and to a lesser extent a T-90 or equivalent) would be shooting at "point blank" ranges IRL if it was fighting as close in as they do in game.

Pretty sure stingers have a range of more than 500 meters. LOL
Well, whatever the range in the game, it's weak. Had to be done though, even with the maps being large for infantry battles, it's still nothing for fighters. Choppers on the other hand, stingers aside, are perfectly suited IMO. The Little Bird in particular, my favorite in the game.

Have you played the single player campaign yet? It'll let you get plenty of trigger time on lots of fairly benign targets (compared to MP, at least) and help you get a feel for the weapons and how they react when fired at different distances. Plus, it out Call of Duties Call of Duty.
