This is looking pretty good. Looks like a possible buy. How are new choppers going to be handled? Will we buy them from third person devs, ala FSX, or will it be the ROF method? Can't imagine they will just come out for free, in patches.

I don't think anything's been officially announced yet.

It wouldn't surprise me if Helo variant's were free, pay-loaded in patches, and of course there are mod tools, so I'm sure the freeware community will be doin' what it does best shortly after launch smile

Although unfortunately, I don't think BI's user agreement allows for the selling of third party content.

That said, my guess is add on choppers will be deployed as part of expansion packs, similar to the Arma series. Meaning you'll probably get a new bird, new map or map area, and new missions.

I'm personally not buying any helos. Will be depending on the mod community for some decent freebies. If a modding community develops of course.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

If they plan on selling new helicopters I will probably buy, especially if they bring some new kind of capability. Another option would be to bring out new cities. I'd pay for those too. These days I think it is unrealistic to expect developers to add a lot of new content for free. Bug fixes are a different matter of course.

Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.

Definitely. The perils of existing in a niche market are that companies take a risk catering to us. I'll do whatever I can to support their efforts. That's of course, not to say that if it's a crap product I'll buy it to help them out. But if they're doing a good job, I'll buy extra helis or cities to help them out.

I hope they do as they did with Arma 2; release a low res version of the new vehicles and area for free and charge to make it high res. This worked well as a sales technique on me at least. I got to see excactly what i was getting. We'll see what they do.

peoples republic of ocean beac...
I would not mind paying for DLC from the developer as 3rd party addons can be hit or miss WRT quality...

the Rise of Flight example is a good one...the Railworks example, for me, is excessive

the FSX example of 3rd party payware and freeware is I think unique to FSX in volume probably, because the MS Flight sim franchise is so...old?

but if there are updates planned and patches in the works that is great news - I am happy with my purchase just knowing that BI is active on the boards

representing their product.
