LOL.

Oh yes! They might have been the enemy but I do love those tanks!

You've got my money Smile2

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead?
Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick.
Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

Finally an upgrade I've been waiting for ever since I got this game. Too bad it's not T-72B, though (ducking for cover wink )..

i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SoundBlaster 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1 btn 2 axis gameport joystick, Numpad as hat-switch. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH average.

I wouldn't rule out that we may one day make a "faux T-72B" based on the T-72M1 with an additional capability to fire missiles. You will note that the default ammo layout of the T-72M1 is SB Pro is
INS - APFSDS
DEL - HEAT
END - HEF
...with HOME conspicuously missing (which is traditionally reserved in the Bradley for the missile). Of course, if we could collect a few more bits of info about the differences, so much the better.

Anyone with direct experience is invited to give us feedback. smile

It's not just the missiles, but because (if I understand correctly) the M1 is the export version and B is a Soviet-only variant with upgraded armour, main gun (and I presume it came with better ammunition compared to the export version), FCS, stabilization system, engine, etc. which would be more of a match to e.g. M1A1 tanks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful that we'll have the T-72 finally, I just hope that there will be more variants (e.g. like the older export variant M or the already mentioned B) simulated for various scenarios.

Well, the ammunition can already be freely selected, and of course the armor protection wouldn't be less than what is already assigned for the non-playable T-72B that already is in Steel Beasts (and has been since September 2010). While there are differences between the guns, they are none that would matter in the context of SB Pro. So it boils down to the question whether there are significant differences in the fire control system, really. Everything else is already implemented, or wouldn't matter for all practical means.

Yes: No.
They were scheduled, but there were delays that forced us to shift their implementation until after the coming release. It is very unfortunate, but the alternative would have been to wait until about July 2012 with the release.

In the light of this we decided that even without the shadows SB Pro PE 2.6 would be a worthy upgrade package - the playable T-72 is just the beginning; more features and additions will be announced in the coming weeks on a near daily basis. I am confident that in December you will be convinced that yet again the new upgrade will be a steal at $25.-

Most likely I will. Always wanted to find out how good/bad it is in a proper simulator.

Well, it is hair splitting to be sure, BUT unless I am mistaken the T-72M1 is essentially the export of the T-72A, not the T-72B as you say. There were no exported versions of the T-72B per-se. The T-72B had missile capability and extra armor, and some other minor differences but I wouldn't say that it got much improvement in the FCS, stab department, at least not in the realm that it was much different than the T-72M1 nor more a match for M1A1 tanks (in that specific regard). However, the gun tube launched ATGM that can be fired at 5km and nearly the same velocity as a maingun round is great equalizer, no doubt. wink

"More of a match for M1A1(HA)s" would be T-80U and T-90 area. However, make no mistake, the T-72M1 and T-72B can be more than a match for any tank, providing they have the proper Warsaw Pact numerical advantage of course. I don't think any will disagree that more playable Russkie vehicles would be a good thing though. One step at a time...

Hmm IIRC the -B got a basic computer to handle lead computation.. so that would be something at least.. plus that ATGM..

Amazing news, I always eyed with SBPro, but now I might really get myself to cough up the cash for this one.

On a side note, is the playable Chally2 still planned to be included? (haven't followed the happenings lately)

It's not hairsplitting (as I'm trying to make a case that there's a significant difference between T-72A/M1 and T-72B), but it was a typo (hence why I wrote "Soviet-only" for the B).

Well, I did say "more of a match", not "more than a match" - I tried to say that it can be on better terms than the export M1 model, as if I understand correctly, the Russians usually downgrade the FCS, reloading system, etc. It wouldn't be fair to compare it to the M1 Abrams considering the dates of introduction. Surely even the M1 Abrams has a better fire on the move capability and thermal sights (which were not that great, though), but it's outgunned and updated armour of the T-72B turret would give it considerable problems (depending on the battle scenario).

Do you have some source about the "nearly the same speed as the main gun" claim? I found that rather unbelievable for any anti-tank guided missile, let alone a laser beam riding one.

I didn't mention the uparmoured HA versions. When I mentioned M1A1, what I mainly referred to was the upgraded (standard) armor plus the 120 mm gun. But I see that the HA versions came into 1987 (thought it was later than that) so I guess it's fair game.

Yes. smile
No fancy 3D interior, the UK RAC hasn't let us taken pictures of it (yet?), but at least the gunner's and commander's sight.
