Anyone bought it yet?

Ah yes, the flight sim that was supposed to have multiplayer but didn't even though it was heavily hyped before release.

One of the best flight sim ever made!! Never found any other sim that was that immersive after.

Yes, the no multiplayer thing lead some guys to never buying the game and missing one of the most interesting and detailed bombing sims of all time.

There were a ton of mods such as putting your own artwork on the leather flying jackets and putting names to crew members and much more.

Doc probably still has several of the mods on his help webpage.

The best part of that game was the Norden bombsight. It was really very accurate when you think about it. Totally analog, it could fly the plane for you right to the cross-hairs. If you got the winds et al right, you could lay a pattern right across the target. And the best part was being able to choose the trail or clump options to drop the bombs, and if I remember right you were able to choose the loadout between H.E. and incendiaries as well.

I loved playing the commander campaign where you got to pick how to repair and salvage your bombers. Then after a few missions each bomber would develop a personality. The last time I played the #4 engine always died about 1/2 way through the channel. I repaired that entire engine about 10 times and it would just die for no reason.

Loved that!

I think I still have it on cd and the book.

I did not know the game was so extensive! How are the missions, AI, flight models of various planes, etc for the game? Is it still worth investigating?

Feel the power of flying a real B-17! See what it was like to be part of a 10-man crew on dangerous bombing missions over occupied Europe. Realistic graphics, animations, and sounds convincingly recreate every aspect of the strategic air battles in WWII. Twenty five scenarios, in which you must manage your crews strengths and weaknesses, test your pilot and leadership skills. This is your team, they are under your command, and it is your job as a captain to complete the mission and take them home in one piece.

This game is a real gem amongst other simulators. With impressive attention to detail and historically accurate missions you can really feel like you are fighting in WWII. Control any of ten different crew positions, seeing the combat as a pilot, one of the gunners, or a communications officer. You can also fly one of the escort planes like P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, and P-47 Thunderbolt. In addition, you are able to switch sides and fight against The Mighty Eighth taking the role of a German Luftwaffe pilot and find out first hand why the B-17 bomber codename was the Flying Fortress.

The sim is not really about the flight models. The B-17 is the focus and getting it to the target and back is the test. So don't expect great FM from any plane, even the B-17.

I don't need no stinking GOG, lol-

I remember sinking hours into this game, even had cloud cover over the targets to contend with, I'm glad that more people may have the opportunity to try this game out. I'm not sure how it holds up now, but it might be worth a revisit, thanks.

I saw it is worth it even with it being a bit long in the tooth.

The flight models were not all "that bad"... just bad smile

Also you can mod it to name your crew members. I always adding in friends and family to make the attachment that much more.

Sold my original with manual on Ebay and some lucky person got it for 99 cents. wink

Definitely the best bombing simulator made. More of a flying role playing game with the crew reactions and bombing campaigns.

I remember shooting up a nearby bombers and popping in to see the results. It was amazing how detailed the damage inside was.

If they have upgraded it to fix the draw distance of the clouds and use the graphics card decently I would be all over this.

S!

I may have to check this one out someday. It's great to have these title available again, having missed them the first time around.
