For whatever reason, I haven't seem to have been hit nearly as hard on the FPS as other Nvidia users (even other GTX580 users) since the latest patch, so I figured I'd share my settings and anyone having issues can take a look and see if there's anything they can change that might help them out a bit. None of this is to say there hasn't been a FPS hit or that it is or isn't somebody's fault, etc. This is just purely a thread to try and help any Nvida owners who may have experienced a sudden drop in FPS since the latest RoF patch. I should also note that I am using the latest Nvidia Beta drivers, 285.27. (Note: I just checked Nvidias website and I see 285.38 Beta just posted) 777 Studios recommends using 266.58, so you might get even better results than I am if you use the recommended drivers instead. Obviously the type of card or cards that you are running is going to make a difference. As for the performance I am getting, I can put 30 planes in the sky (15 vs 15) in Quick Mission over Verdun and get no less than 45 FPS, usually 50 - 55, often pure 60. With about half that number I stay at 60 FPS almost exclusively. Nvidia Inspector settingsRise of Flight Graphics settingsI hope this helps. Hellshade

Update: I just downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia beta drivers, 285.38 which basically are designed to give Battlefield 3 at 38% FPS boost (according to Nvidia). Well, it gives a pretty nice boost to Rise of Flight too! In the same 15 vs 15 Quick Mission, I stay at 57 - 60 FPS no matter how many planes I am looking at in the sky, and even when I face towards the ground, the lowest it dropped too is 47 FPS for a fraction of a second or so...but still very, very smooth. And I don't always lose FPS when I look at the ground either. I'm sure it depends on the scenery. Sometimes it stayed at 60 FPS even looking straight at the ground textures.
Even better, it seems to have a significant impact on fixing the Max Shaders flashing ground textures issue. I ran a couple of Career Mission and Quick Mission flights. On the Career Missions, when I first was put in the cockpit on the ground, the ground textures were a neon blue for a split second - but then they went away and never came back. I kept checking the ground and terrain, flying low and high and, for me at least, I never got flashing textures again. Obviously what works on my machine is not a guarantee to work on everyone elses, but if you are unhappy with how things are running with Rise of Flight now, I highly recommend giving the 285.38 Beta drivers for Nvidia a try. Whatever they did to boost Battlefield 3 seems to have a nice bleed over effect to Rise of Flight.

I'm guessing but I'd be willing to bet that alot of the problems folks have are due to the users settings. I have an ATI 5970 and an i7 cpu at 3.5 gig with lots of ram and as an example, I don't see the point of using "SuperSampling" as the "normal" 4X anti-aliasing makes for a beautiful image. Supersampling sucks the guts out of the GPU and for what? I can't see the difference on my 27 inch LG monitor. Tone some of the goodies down and start from there-I bet that would solve lots of folks problems without a noticable degradation in viewing pleasure!

I find in CloD the grass is the culprit for a stuttery mess... I wonder if the same could be true for RoF? Not that it stutters on my system, but it might on others...

Wow, you are running quite conservatively given a GTX 580. I prefer to stay at 60 FPS as much as possible. For me personally, nothing pulls me out of the immersion of a flight sim more than getting laggy or choppy gameplay. It just kills the illusion of flight for me. So I tone down the things that, to me, don't seem to make that big of a difference in appearance. The way I have it now, even flying through clouds, etc, everything pretty much stays smooth as glass. It's all just a matter of personal taste. Hellshade

I had some framerate issues after the last patch, so I tried the beta drivers. They work, no issues whatsoever, but it still seemed sluggish. I then played a 15vs15 quick mission, and it was a stuttering mess. Exited and saw that in RoF's options the framerate limiter was set to 60. I put it back to unlimited and it was smooth as glass. So that was my issue. Must have clicked it and scrolled my mouse by accident.
