I'd say go with the 6970 since it has more memory, both CloD and RoF will use all the memory.

Don't know about the ASrock mobo as I went with Asus p8p67 pro...
I picked up the same RAM, seems fine.
i5 2500k is great, my OC to 4.3 with stock intel cooler is rock solid and has never gone higher than 48 Celsius.

Overall system components look good to me smile

I just built and i5 2500K rig, and went with an Asus P8Z68 Deluxe - might as well, it's the newer chip set.
No point in upgrading an existing system from a p67 to a Z68 Mobo, but also no point in building a new system with a p67.
GTX 580, 16GB RAM. (3D workstation that doubles as a flight sim rig)

Not sure if the same problem might happen with other boards, but with my combination of Gigabyte GA-870A, AMD 6-core and Scythe Mugen Rev. B the Ripjaws with their cooling "towers" wouldn' fit under the Mugen. Also DDR3 2133 could be more expensive than slower ram without offering a significant performance boost.

As for graphic cards, both should be overkill for fullHD and lower resolutions. Since you bothered to copy & paste the crossfire/SLI support of both cards, you might want to go with AMD, since crossfire in the current GPU generation scales significantly better than SLI. You can read up on this here:

With respect, I'm going to disagree here.

From what I understand the z68 offers 3 advantages:
1- support for integrated graphics on the CPU; since he's going to go with a strong GPU card he won't see any additional benefit from this.
2- SSD caching; we don't know if he's going to go SSD, even if he is this doesn't add much benefit except to place his most frequently used applications onto the SSD- most people know which programs they want on the SSD and which can go onto the HDD. It's perhaps a convenient feature if you don't want to take the time to think of how to allocate the storage when installing software but apart from that not of much benefit (imo),
3- Quicksync; basically for video transcoding- unless he plans to watch Blu-Rays or HD-DVDs on his desktop this feature won't be of any benefit.

IMO, the price premium of a z68 over a P67 is not worth it for his purposes (within the assumptions set out above).

I'll agree that the ram is overkill. 16gb of ram is completely unnecessary and you can get great ram ~1600mhz for much less and you won't even be able to tell the difference. I mean if you're set on it go for it, but RAM doesn't play a massive role in gaming performance. 8 gb of 1600mhz+ ram and you'll be laughing.

Between the 2 cards I'd go for the 570 strictly because it's EVGA and they're excellent in quality control, customer service and RMA's if need be. I personally have that exact card humming away in my rig as we speak. Having said that though, they trade blows relatively evenly depending on the game, and neither really comes out in front of the other. I call BS on people who say that AMD drivers are bad, I've owned AMD/ATI for years and never once had a driver problem. I've only owned nVidia for 9 months or so and I get the occasional hiccup in driver functionality, in fact I have one right now (Albeit it is with the latest beta drivers, so take that with a hefty grain of salt). They're both fantastic cards, so just go with whatever your gut tells you. You certainly won't be selling yourself short with either.

On the CPU front, you'd better be getting an aftermarket cooler for that! It's basically a crime if you don't. I overclocked my friend's to 4.6Ghz with a super quick and dirty session. Could probably get it to 4.8 or so if I actually spent a bit of time with it.

Found out the same thing..thus the P67. FYI I already have a nice Zalman cooler that will work on the Asrock m/b so I've got that covered. I'm video card agnostic but I've been running an ATI this time and honestly have had real good luck with both brands but I think I'll go with the 6970 because it's only about 40-50 bucks more and as has been said I think the additional video memory will really help.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions..I really appreciate it!
