Some nice pic's of a Harry Tate to drool over. It's interesting to see the amount of oil splattered over the windscreen and engine cowl.

Glad they're adding this bird-it'll be a great new target!!!

From what little I've read about it, I'd say pity the pilots who had to fly this barge...

The color photos of the Harry Tate and of the Bristol F2.b both show the rear gunner position manned with 2 MGs. My understanding was that both were normally fitted with one MG for the observer. The B&W photos of both planes show them with one MG. I think those color photos are of modern replicas. It makes me wonder if putting 2 MGs at that position is due to a modern prejudice or to increase wow factor or some such. Anyhow, it has been debated at the official forum as to the accuracy of having our Bristol equipped with 2 MGs, which was not the factory standard loadout. Color pictures like those at Wingnuts might have influenced the devs to do that. I hope the Harry Tate comes with one MG for the observer.

I read recently that it was common for pilots to make changes to their AC in consultation with their ground crews to both the armament, plumbing, and rigging to change/ fine tune flight characteristics. I think McCudden started as a mechanic and was on top of his aircraft's every feature. Also, in "Winged Victory" and "Sagiterius Rising" there such references. Just an aside, as I am an FNG and on the learning curve as the result of these books and many more. Cheers, John

Hi John. I agree with you that there were modifications to aircraft after they were received. But the dev team have made it their standard to provide aircraft configured as they were from the factory. In fact, to address the later modifications that you described, they introduced their Field Mods so we can add things that were often used on the real aircraft via customizations. No, we can't get additional guns (yet), but the Harry Tate should configured according to how a factory fresh one was configured.

Allen, Texas? Cool! I am just down US75 from you in Plano. Welcome to RoF!

yes, understand your point..these ac seem just a few steps ahead of the flying RC models. I understand the developers intentions and of course quite correct. The very notion today of asking a ground crew to adjust flight envelope of F16, for example, is unbelieveable. I remember reading an RFC pilot mounted a gun to fire upward or downward a la "Schragemusik" but was told he had to remove it! Talk about mass "Improvisation". And yet that was rapid, at the front, forwrad progress ( what better place) as these AC from 1914 compared to 1918 show us on the sim. It is amazing to read of AC brought to the front from design team in just months. The historys got me to the sim so I am blundering my way into the air. Having problems this week with my IR5 flickering the view that last week made flying a delight but there is a comment about that above. I am working on first mission as flight training and have got all but the steam engine..will start training missions after I learn that one..many thanks to requium for his training vids. Yes, we are neighbors..amazes me that that includes the world now, as a guy in Norway urged me to get the IR5 and I was grateful. Cheers from fellow drooler (FW190, F9F etc), John

There is a visual representation of trim control in other WWI aircraft in the game I believe, but none that actualy work yet.. not heard anything about 'actual' trim control with this one yet.

That's right, there are a number of a/c in ROF at the moment that had trim, as of yet there is no ability to control trim within ROF.
