With pleasure I announce the coming new update.
Technical note-due to game engine limitations most of the new effects is large.
They look very well from the cockpit, with an free-camera sometimes looks worse.
After the turn:
NEW BURNING FIRE EFFECTS

A new large dust vehicles

Shot down planes and helicopters pulled beautiful balls of fire

Destroyed buildings form a large cloud of dust(left) new smokes (right)

Finally new missile smoke trails

New better(larger) downwash effect

Greater smokescreen

and many other things .
Coming soon cheers

Banita:
Beautiful piece of work Banita ! Well done !

When you say it's "large", do you mean it could cause stutter in the game when the effects are displayed ?

FireBird:
Will you be including your mod to get headset sound from another soundcard in the new release ? I'm sorry I haven't been back in touch, but have had terrible trouble with broadband (down to 128k most of the time). Sorted now.

I did test it with any cards I could get my hands on (Audigy 4, Yamaha XG, Soundblaster PCI128, Soundblaster Live 5.1 and Realtek onboard) and performed well on all of them. Obviously couldn't get 5.1 on the non 5.1 cards, but basic sound worked on all.

Large in the sense that some effects are not an appropriate scale, or larger, or smaller.
Fire alone does not cause big slowdowns or stutter.Smoke-yes, but not larger than the previous version.

Yes, once a feature was added, it's not removed. Thank you for testing, I'm glad it works.

Hi BANITA. Those effects looks awesome, except for the downwash IMO. On one of your screens Havocs downwash looks like the helicopter takes off from some dusty environment, lke a desrt or so, while it does from something more like a 'grassy' environment, so i think there shouldn't be so many dust in the downwash stream, like in case of this Apache:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ephp09I41yU

or this Mi-24:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0q_seLhKEk

But again, you've done awesome work on those effects in general!

Hi rogal wink
This set is more like sand area, but believe me, from the cockpit that looks great.
You can easily see the helicopters flying low. This can reduce
course, but when aiming the additional dust is also fantastic. You have additional small puffs of dust at an altitude of 20-40 meters.

Btw Firebird as always did amazing tool, and everyone will be able to edit all the parameters.

That sounds great! Will the clients be able to see downwash in multi, or will it be possible only for the server host, as previously?
Oh, and BTW, is Soczkien still around? I tried to contact him via PM, but got no response.

They look great. Will they be quite processor intensive like the way the current persistent smoke is?

I do not know what happens to Soczkien.Downwash I think that nothing has changed in multi.
messyhead-1-2 plumes is not a problem,or many wrecks far apart, but destroy the 5-6vehicles close together this slows FPS.

Just a suggestion. Could you not have a part of the graphics option screen where you could enable each seperately. I know it's probably a lot more work, but it would make it a lot more uesful for those of us running on older PCs.

Cheers,

Andy

If Firebird doesn't get time to add that kind of stuff then it will go in the next major release.

I promised I'd come back and do the work I was supposed to - and whilst I am (yet again) late to the party, the real life work software releases draw to an end this week, so given a week to find my feet and have a quick word with a couple of devs, I'll be in the swing of things before the end of September.

Control mapping and re-jiggged options screens are the two primary items on my todo list (next to fixing bugs from the bug tracker).

If we get enough done it might make a worthy 1.14 wink

Martin...

Waiting for release I do small corrections to the downwash.
I do not know whose it work, but the water in EECH is absolutely fantastic.
World class wow.

I want to say that it's easier to make several versions of effects and install them independently (optionally) for old computers, than to tune the code. Code is very simple and loads all of the explosion effects at once, they are described in the single file. We are going to allow to select which version of EECH to install (OpenAL or DirectX), and we can make to allow to choose which version of effects to install too.

BANITA: could you please make two versions of your effects? Also, you often say "it looks great from the cockpit". Please publish the screenshots or video from the cockpit!

Executioner: yeah! We're are still waiting for your changes!

Firebird - ok 2 versions, In the "budget "version will be reduced all the effects.
Launching rockets from Mi24

Shows a comparison, what can you do with all the effects.
Smoke normal and 2 times larger(Useless because everything disappears from sight for several seconds)

Imo At this point we need only one thing that this game looked perfectly-lighting the burning wreckage - day and night.ATM such flames works only at dawn and dusk, and does not generate any light.
With lighting wreck would look better than the DCS.
It is possible for dx7 example -freefalcon shot .
