Loaded the mod with no problem and confirmed that the backup lua and modified lua files are there but the MFCD's remain in the HUD only view in the instant action missions. I don't believe that I am on "easy radar" unless that is what is in Game Avionics. Do I need to be in Game Sim to get this benefit?

What if I change the line in the LUA file just above the change that you made? I think I'll try that and report back.

Yes, that change made the MFCD's disappear in Avionics mode. So here's what to do in addition to the changes noted in Tom Weiss's mod above:

In the MFCD_init.lua file, change this:

if LockOn_Options.flight.easy_radar then
render_target_always = true
purposes = {render_purpose.GENERAL,render_purpose.HUD_ONLY_VIEW,render_purpose.SCREENSPACE_OUTSIDE_COCKPIT}
else

To this:

if LockOn_Options.flight.easy_radar then
render_target_always = true
purposes = {render_purpose.GENERAL}
else

Together with Tom Weiss' mod, the above change eliminates the MFCD's in the HUD ONLY view in avionics mode.
