I can easily enough find the squadrons that have Fokker DVIIF models, but they always also have the standard Fokker DVIIs and no matter which one I select or which time frame I select it from, I always get the earlier DVII version. Is there a way to start a career flying the DVIIF?

and in a mostly unrelated question, does anyone know why the DVII engine never sounds like it's going full out, even at max throttle? Was it like that in the real plane? To me, always sounds like it's just cruising along without ever pushing to the limits.

Thanks in advance for any constructive answers and advice.

Have you tried using the "sort by plane filter" option in career creation?

Yep. First thing. But then every squadron that has the DVIIF also has the DVII deployed as well. And when you actually start the career, I get put in a DVII instead of the DVIIF. Give it a shot and see what you come up with.

I would think the D.VIIF's are for the non-noob pilots.

Prove yourself within the squadron for a few weeks and I bet you'll get access to them.

....sounds historical to me.

Brian has it right. Jastas that had the D.VIIF flew them alongside the D.VII. Just the way things were.

I doubt that D.VIIs with D.IIIa engines were ever flying alongside D.VIIs with BMWs. If it did happen, it would have been a very brief liaison.

I think what LukeFF means by "alongside" is that some Jastas had both types available to them. They probably didn't fly together in the same patrol as you say.

I'm flying a career with Alb D.II aircraft at the moment and the Jasta is issued with both early and late models of the D.II. I've noticed that the aircraft I'm issued seem to almost alternate between the two types regardless of rank or experience with each mission.

The D.IIIa was the least common engine in the D.VII. Its use was likely phased out in the early summer of 1918.

The most common type was the D.IIIau, and after that, the BMW.

Okay, but maybe in the game that is how it works.

Hermann Goering mentioned flying patrols with both D.VIIs and D.VIIFs.

(I cannot find the quote at the moment, but I know I read it somewhere once before).

Sure, but I doubt they were the type of D.VII that we have in the game. That's all I was trying to say.

There's almost as big of a difference between the D.IIIa and D.IIIau engined D.VIIs as there is between the D.IIIa engined (ours in the game) and the D.VIIF!

Couldnt you just make yourself a high rank (or CO) and assign the plane yourself?

Yes, the only way is to have a higher rank... sigh

I'm working on that. I've gotten two promotions so far, but I started in late 1916 so it's going to be awhile before a Fokker DVIIF is available. I find the Albatros DII to be a wonderful machine against Aircos, and early Nieuports though. I'm looking forward to the plane progression.

If you have gained ranks in one Career you can start a new one from the highest "unlocked" rank.
You could use this feature to your benefit, than waiting two "RoF years"... old_simmer

Didn't know that. Thanks.
