22 MB update with no accompanying info, mysterious indeed. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Anyone played since the update and noticed anything different? My guess is it's just a little housekeeping before the beta.

Maybe it's a pre-update update. Other games get them all the time on Steam. It doesn't actually change the game at all, it's merely something laying the foundation for the actual update.

I was going to update this afternoon, but there are posts about clearing out this or that cache. Where do I exactly go to do that? Is it on my machine or in steam itself? Does this wipe out my joystick settings? Do I need to backup my ini file like I did with 1946, and where is the file? Sorry for so many questions. Just getting used to the new stuff. Hopper. The Cache is in the 1C Softclub folder-something-something-shaders-cache... The reason I'm being so vague is that it really doesn't matter anymore. Clearing out the cache used to help new updates work to their full potential, but that is now only so much voodoo as far as I can tell. The updates will now delete the cache automatically according to Luthier. If this is not the case for the upcoming Beta patch then I'll happily post better directions. Also if you do delete it, it will not affect your joystick settings whatsoever.

Ok, I was curious and am now on a grown-up computer rather than that powder-puff laptop I've had irradiating my groin for the last 10 days. I kept a copy of my old Steam CloD files and then let the Steam update waft over me like the consumerist sheep I am. Doing a directories compare, it looks like just the 4MB file 'launchergdf.dll' was updated. The update inside the binary shows that 1C 're-signed' the file with a new digital signature (from a different vendor that's cheaper than Verisign) and made a tiny feature change (I think, hard to tell). The launcher.exe.config was also updated in the patch, although for me it just added a bit more whitespace on the end. People may be seeing performance improvements because the launcher could be clearing up properly for patches or it's resetting a previous bad config to something better. Edit: Should have left the compare longer. Looks like there were some more feature changes, i.e. some game files too (ignore the add-in lines) Hmm, naughty software developers at 1C not updating the version number. That way chaos lies.

The Jedi Master Ah, that was mine. An add-in to allow people to test/display the damage model in-game using additional chat commands. I should finish it really as it's fun to make your own wings fall off mid-flight.

Ok, cleaned out the cache, restarted C0D. Seemed (with my Mark 1 eyeball) to attain a greater degree of smoothness in terms of increased framerates and less micro stuttering. Of particular significance, no longer getting flickering water from both inside cockpit and external views which I had been experiencing since going SLI.

Hi there Snapper, you mentioned you'd recently gone SLI with your 560's so I just wanted to ask if it had a significant impact on your CoD performance, I'm thinking of doing the same with 460s. Also does it mean lots of jiggery pokery with drivers etc or does it just 'work'? To keep this post on-topic I also noticed a performance boost with the new mini-patch. Bodes well for the new beta.

Hi Bokononist, With the single 560 Ti I noticed it was running at 90%+ and temps were approaching 100 C With the 2nd 560 Ti in SLI mode both cards are running at 45-50% each and temps are maxing out at 60 C. With full detail (except SSAO and epilepsy - they're unchecked) with SLI I'm running pretty much a continuous 60 fps (Vsync on) over sea, and 30-60 fps over land. Have only done a bit of flying over London, but what was impossible before with my GTX285 now I'm getting smooth flow, albeit with framerates of, say, 25-40 fps. If I had a newer, more powerful CPU the cards would both be running at higher load and generating faster framerates. My old 2.67 Hz CPU is the bottleneck, but unfortunately Gateway has chosen to lock out the BIOS from any overclocking attempts. Hacks are out there to break this lock, I just haven't gone down that road yet. Edit: I forgot to mention I run at 1680 x 1050 native resolution on my Samsung Syncmaster 2233 22" LCD monitor re temperatures: I use the EVGA monitor utility with my two EVGA 560 Ti cards. Since going into SLI I've used this utility to automatically increase fan speed in 10% increments with each 10 C rise in temp. It can get a little noisy with C0D's heavy graphics load, but temps are better controlled. Probably could have achieved the same with the single 560 Ti card if I'd thought to do that earlier. I also replaced the 80mm case fan with a 120mm case fan, plus installed a new 80mm case fan at the front to blow directly onto the cards. (Case fans are cheap). After I attached the SLI bridge connector to the two cards and fired up my PC I got an Nvidia popup message saying that the two cards were recognized and SLI is enabled. There is a free Nvidia utility called Nvidia Inspector that enables you to make some adjustments to tweak the SLI performance for CoD. (At first my two cards were running at approx 80%/20%; the simple tweaking got them balancing the load at 50/50). I'd be pleased to go into further step by step detail with you if you opt to get another 460. I am fairly computer illiterate, so I can safely say going to SLI was not a complex process. Post your motherboard model and CPU here -- others can tell you if your motherboard is SLI compatible. For starters, it would have shipped with the little SLI bridge connector (it's a ribbon cable about an inch wide and three inches wide with a connector at each end). If you lost it (as I had), they're cheap and easy to order over ebay. Mine cost $3 plus $2 shipping! I had misgivings about going with SLI because of the water flickering over the channel. I was able to reduce the flickering somewhat with further tweaks in Nvidia Inspector, but it was still a distraction. As I mentioned sometime earlier, with the latest Steam "phantom" update, the flickering has ceased!
