I worked further, on the skins to "fix" as possible the eyes problem... My eyes hurt and my head aches, right now... What do you think of this: I remind you that in the way the eyes are rendered, (on the goggle lens), the problem is never gonna be solved 100%, except the developers decide to remap the 3d model differently... Also bare in mind that the skins are not optimised to be looked from so close distance, moreover with lens distortion involved! Anyway, if you want to check the revised skins in game, here they are optimised to be enabled as a mod via JSGME. (In Mods on mode). If you have JSGME, extract the Pilot Mod folder, into your MODS folder and enable. If you haven't got JSGME and still want to try them copy the data folder contained in the Pilot Mod folder and paste it into your game's main directory, merge folders when asked. http://www.mediafire.com/?8uzglaf1uxm2u4sPS: the deadline for 1.021 is till Friday so please, hurry up with your feedback !

What do you think of this: ...I think we all understood the limitations of the "eye on the lens". ...the only issue was they looked too far apart is all. Looks like you fixed it perfectly!

Imho it lost that bit of personality compared to the previous version - I like how somebody on russian forums said that "the previous guy was a cool dude that one would want to have a beer with after a flight, but the new one is..." dont remember the quote... but the complete opposite Imho, just upgrade detail/resolution of old faces, but do not touch their personality/ facial features. (no offence, much respect your attmepts to make RoF better!) I don't think I changed anything to the face except the moustache and the eyes... but now you're mentioning it, I actually used a different set of eyes on the previous guy. I may try and alternative... The resolution cannot be changed, unfortunately. The pilot-crew members models were never intentioned to be watched from so close, (look how blocky the model looks comparing to the surrounding cockpit). They were made long before any two seaters were available, actually... Originally, a handful of textures were shared by every plane in game and these textures were designed to be all mirrored to save memory resources. Considering all these it's a step forward, but do not expect miracles... It's like flying your plane with the external view cockpit render and complaining that your cockpit is not detailed enough, to give an analogy.

I used to work in 256 format in old IL-2 and 1024 is a great improvement although the mirroring. I was banned from the banana Forums when I suggested, (before release), at least, reposing the figures to more natural positions, not to mention the movement that was already implemented in older games as Strike Fighters, (I didn't have RoF then). Our RoF guys still have some proportion problems and leave room for improvement, but I agree, that they look more lifelike than the CloD ones, that have lots of tiny details implemented but lacking some basics...

@ elephantSorry, I meant original crew members, not your previous attempt (left- new, right - old) http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=136333&d=1308996308The old versions have that menace and hardness in their faces, new guy is a hapless bafoon More so without the mustache now. Imho the new coat, collar and scarf look better, but the face itself and maybe the leather hat looked better before. Oh, and moustache lookes cool, dont get rid of it - it really brings back the old days when people though it was bad manners to go without a hat and most men wore beards/mustache.

I see your point Borsch... I kind of agree with you about the mean look of the original faces, that was more pronounced by the fact they didn't actually have eyes! but they look too artificial to me... Like in old IL-2,I've been using and adapting, real athletes faces, (they match the age frame). Even if I went in reverting back to the original faces, they were only four, now in 1.021 there gonna be nine of them! The optimal would have been to be fully customisable, but... Anyway, many people liked that the new faces looked more than actual people, there is no end to this discussion. I have till tommorow to try a meaner looking Brisfitt gunner...we'll see...

Can you maybe edit the old face so as just give him a pair of eyes? His face is looks right for the job - hard, merciless, seen the horrors of war and contributed to them - its in his facial expression, his chin, folds round the lips, crazy little mustache... He has a (what cinema people term) "an interesting face"- these things are rare, so dont just discard it. Modify it so that it has eyes, but let him be as one of the nine. Imho;)

What do you think of this one Borsch? I used the original face as basis...

Hey:)
Imho, the new mustached guy is the best of your creations (the new mustache-less guy is better than before, but he looks more sad than "hardened by war").
A little notice on mustache (haha I know, I know - and no I dont have one or even like them in RL;) ): notice how the original RoF created man had not just a brown splat under his nose, but his mustache was groomed and curled up slightly - people took much pride in their facial hair back then (just look at Nietzsche, Gorky or Chekhov - but please do not recreate them as copilots;) ). Perhaps you could groom your creations a bit.
Having said that, I still think that original RoF guy deserves to be "of the nine" pilots/copilots (as well as the original RoF pilot imho). The art guys in RoF did not just stick first thing that came into their heads, their pilots have been created lovingly and very thoughtfully (I am not saying that you did the opposite, only praising RoF artists;). Do you have access to RoF original pilot files?
