Kind of hooked on this lately. I'm interested in relaxing with story and cinematic scenes to actually watch the eye candy more than crazy clickfest.
Played through SW: Empire at War twice already, which is a ton of fun.
After owning Hegemonia for a couple of years, I finally gave it a real go and I'm hooked on it. Pounding a planet into submission reminds me of B5 and the mass drivers. LOL
Got Sins of a Solar Empire, which is nice, but doesn't have a real story or campaign so it's not as fun as I'd hoped.

Looking for something to go to next. I really like it when these have an automatic cinematic camera view like the SW game does, and a story and campaign of some sort, unlike SoaSE. I don't want to go too far back for one, I want it to look modern, not 1999. wink
What do you all like?

I enjoyed Star Trek Armada I and II quite a lot but they're older games so they probably look pretty dated by now. They did have some good stories and cut-scenes though.

I saw ST Armada, but it's rare to find new so very pricey. I wanted to try ST Bridge Commander too, but can't find it for anything reasonable.
Just noticed Nexus at Steam, that might be good. Also another called Genesis Rising, but possible Win7 issues.
I've heard good things about Homeworld, the 2nd one might be a little nicer looking. No download version that I've seen, but that's ok.
Each of those are at $10 or less, about the price range I'm hoping to stick to.

I thought ST Bridge Commander was more of a tactical capital ship simulator like Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy and not an RTS?

Ah, ok. Wasn't sure, for some reason I'd thought it was like ST: Legacy.

PM, check this out:

Nice video. I'm not big on the conversion mods due to getting easily frustrated, but it's nice to know that's out there.
Think I'll go with Nexus for now.
Forgot I had the Star Wolves games too, but they just aren't that inspiring. Maybe after getting properly aged like Hegemonia was. wink

Have you ever played Homeworld(2)? One of my favorite games of all time.

No, but I keep seeing mention of it in comments with these other games. It was a toss up which to get but I'll probably end up with HW2 at some point also.

I played the demo for the first Homeworld I think. I never went farther than that.

Still in the tutorial part, but this is a pretty cool game so far. Controls are pretty general, so it's not crazy to pick up on. Graphics are phenomenal. The only thing that's bugging me is that you can't level the ships out on a plane, as things move around or you move the camera, you have the ship turned all upside down, right side up and everything in-between. I'd like it if the camera could fix to the same plane as the ship and let the rest turn around. Small complaint though, and it's not like you're piloting directly.
Also, I can't find a way to exit the friggin game! I see no way to get to the menu again to quit properly. Maybe it's just me though. Have to alt-tab and close down from the desktop as it is now. So far it's worth it.
(original, not modded version)

Strike that on not being able to exit to main menu. ESC didn't work before like it should have, but I noticed I had some updates ready to finish installing, so I guess that was causing some funky issues. Working perfectly now.
