Something I often do. Did it today and my head is spinning. Maybe a sign I should stop.

Is doing this clearly a stupid thing to do? I'm 41 and in an excellent health, but even so, don't wanna give myself heat stroke or a heart attack.

Advice?

Either heat exhaustion or dehydration.

Drink more water if I were you; even if you think you're hydrated.

Plenty of lessons learned in the Marines. biggrin

Yep, by the time you're thirsty it's too late, you're already dehydrated. Drink enough water so your piss is clear all the time.

I usually run at work so middway through my run I stop into the office building and drink from the water fountain. If I don't run at work then at home in the evening I swim for about 40 min (35 laps), but don't usually drink. I should probably start bringing water with me.

Just drink plenty of water. I've been running 5-6 miles in 90+ degree weather without any issue.

The radio this morning specifically said even if you are in shape and in perfect health... don't be stupid.
Heat exhaustion/stroke is a very serious thing. You can reach a point (Football players have done this) where your core temp is so high that they can't save you.
A Dallas Cowboy Practice Squad player died about 2 years ago when the temps were around 98F.
And he had medical help immediately.
Just sayin'....

Yeah, good advice. Think I'll use the office gym until the heat dies down.

You could have a heart attack if your heart is on the weak side. I read a book about a marathon runner and he looked to be in excellent health but his heart was not strong and died of a heart attack while running. I think he was 40 or so too. It happens.

I use to run 2-3 days a week and most of the time never more than just 15-20 mins( taking easy) so don't try to push too hard, some times less time and 2-3 days a week can be better.

My advice, don't run when there is too much Heat, it can actually be very dangerous. I don't like heat while running either and feel in many cases a bit dizzy too. Try later afternoon.

Why are you not running in the morning or evening? That is when I do my running and/or biking. Weather is almost much more cooperative at those times.

My goal is 5 miles a day but I probably average ~3 due to time constraints, but if I know it's gonna be hot I save it for the evening when it's cooler. I'm 33 and it can be difficult for me to run when it's above 90 w/o feelin' a bit dizzy, so I don't think it's an age thing. I just make sure to drink lots of cold water before and after I'm done.

Might be a good idea to have a camel back with yea. A 100 oz will keep yea Hydrated while you run. Weight is negligable.

Last year I would run in 105 degree heat in the evening well after the run went down. I could knock out 5 miles no problem. Basically, you need to super-hydrate yourself. I ended to drink 32 ounces just before I ran and had another 32 ounce I drank right after.

Now, I have a broken foot and my life sucks. smile

I've run 3+ miles in over 90 deg weather and have felt fine and I'm only about a year behind you, PM. So, I think maybe you just need to hydrate more before running. I think my problem is at the end of it it seems to take me forever to cool back down.

Yeah H2O is king. I have been running 3 to 4 everyday is 100+ heat and I am 38 and still about 80 lbs overweight. I drink at least 150oz of water a day.

get up at 5am - hit the trail by 5:30 - gives you 30 min to run which is a good run. By 6 am about the time of sunrise you're done.

I don't exercise in the morning. It's enough to just be awake before 10am. I can't stand the mornings. I prefer to exercise early evening, but sometimes on slower workdays I maximize my time by exercising, which makes it midday through about 5pm.
