The geometry and LOD transitioning in WoP is simply astounding. And it's scary to think that the devs have said that this would be possible on '300km x 300km' maps as well.

An interesting comparo. Personally, I could live without the sepia-toning in WOP -- otherwise they've nailed it IMHO. I do like the lighting and shadowing in CoD, not sure if the topography was as heavily forested in 1940 as WOP suggests. The issue of hedgerows (or lack thereof) in CoD should be addressed, as well as some seasonal landscape colour tweaking to more closely represent the vegetation of SW England in July - Oct, 1940. As mentioned above, the transitioning of landscape, buildings, etc needs work as well.

I see CLOD and WOP whats the middle one? BOB II?
Comparing CLOD and WOP is a bit like comparing a FPS like call of duty with ARMA. Many FPS's look much nicer for screenies etc but ARAMA is far more in depth. These are the compromises we have to make.
CLOD needs some tweaks for the clours and lighting but I don't think it could ever look like WOP due to the massive difference between the two. One is a Sim with a lot more going on under the hood and the other a very convincing game.
Personally I find the sepia tones hideous! But also CLOD looks wierd as well but then if you change the time of the day I find it looks much nicer. That is why I was wondering if the issues with colours in CLOD are also related some missing elements of the dynamic lighting and weather? Just speculations.
How come this couldn't go in the Landscape thread?

One is a Sim with a lot more going on under the hood and the other a very convincing game. I'd trade in the 1.479 different objects that can be damaged in each of CoD's aircraft, the highly detailed vehicles and the ability to configure my ammo belts and bomb fuzes for a more natural looking terrain, a couple of ships and a decent campaign any day.

On the merit of LOOKING REALLY SWEET, WoP attracted me immediately. If they were to ever inject the technical depth and detail that CoD has (and intends to expand on), I would consider Gaijin an overall contender. Until then, WoP will be to me a pretty face and no more, even if 1C were to shut down tomorrow.
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

How funny. I don't read the 'shades of green' argument threads and this wasn't meant to be one of those! This was meant to be a homage to Dover as it is shown in the various sims. I just love flying that part of the world in a Spitfire in just about any sim. So I thought it would be interesting to look at how it is modelled in these three, WoP, CoD and BOBII. That was it. Nothing more. I love the little differences in detail. I know from the intense discussions in the BoB Devs Group for BOBII the type and number of buildings in the Dover port in BOBII is very historically accurate, particularly the surprising placement of industrial facilities at the base of the Cliffs, which are absent in CoD (though you can see the 'shadow' of some oil tanks on a tile at the western end of the harbour in CoD which obviously never made it in as objects. BOBII also models the rail lines and tunnels which fed Dover port, while the other two don't seem to. Another thing for the detail freaks, in BOBII you will see the iconic red and white Beachy head lighthouse is located out in the surf at the base of the Cliffs, while other sims put it on the top of the Cliffs, which seems logical, but actually is wrong. WoP is of course very over the top, with a ton more objects (they don't seemingly effect frame rates the same way CoD objects do) but BoBII research tends to suggest the WoP version of Dover is overpopulated with buildings for the period. Dover Castle hasn't changed for hundreds of years though, and while all sims show it, CoD does a beautiful job of representing it. And I can tell you in WoP and BOBII it is possible to belly land on the main pier at Dover, but when I try it in Cliffs of Dover I seem to go right through into the water! Maybe because it is made of tree? H

All to no avail if they cant remove that horrible filter, looks great otherwise but not realistic, more like a nice painting, although with the right colours/shaders the CoD shots would probably be the best IMO

The geometry is better in CofD (and it already has a big map). However, I something looks wrong with the striations. Besides, white cliffs? Pfffs... What are they supposed to be made out of, chalk?! The devs - seriously, what were they thinking? P.S. I actually like the BoB2 look most.

You are then, i'm afraid, in a minority! The people here (me included) usually want everything, the cake and the icing.
