Which 27" monitors are you thinking about going with, pepper?

Wow. That is just...awesome!
PS- I've taken to referring to Obutto as if it were an African orphan I'm planning to adopt, aka like Sasha Baron Cohen's Bruno in the recent movie. ("When Obutto comes to us from overseas, we will provide him with a loving home") This amuses my girlfriend to no end (umm, errr, unless it doesn't). Ha.
Thinking of throwing a housewarming/baby shower party for it once I finally get it and set it up, so her female friends can see it and stare in horror. She's sent them the link to it and they are all like "oh. my. god. is he really going to buy that?!?" It's amusing to me how beyond the pale it is in their minds, as if it implies I'm going to stop working, bathing, etc. and just game 24/7. Thank heavens I care not a wit about their opinions, and in fact find amusement in the whole situation. I swim, work, play guitar, cook, socialize with friends, and yes, game. Gamer and proud!!

pepper, Not to rain on your parade, but 2 cents. Yes, get the new multi-monitor mounting kit that fits the 3 27" monitors. I strongly suggest everyone get it because they are really missing out even if they use one main monitor for gaming. Here is what I've got for my upcoming (now 10 months late!) follow-up article. While multiple monitor give terrific immersion, it does have some downsides. First, it requires more system resources. System resources meaning many more pixels to push around. Also, you cannot run apps and notes in one of the monitors, unless you don't run the game full screen. It is a HUGE advantage to run Teamspeak (yes, there are overlay applets but they don't always work so well), notepad notes, pdf reference, maps, or whatever on the second monitor. This is the 27" I bought and I couldn't be happier with it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236103The Newegg listing of Best Rating 27" monitors is here. The smaller monitor is an older 19" LCD that is mounted on the left arm of the triple head kit. The kit is terrific to allow multiple sized monitors of varying sizes. So I would encourage anyone who is considering the tri-headed setup on the Obutto to get the new 27" mounting set, but try a single big monitor first with a second smaller eyeball. See what you think of the performance and efficiency, then go get the additional two monitors if you decide to. I'm sure Chris from Obutto, Joe Keefe, and others will drop by soon to totally disagree saying the immersion offsets any benefit of running sidebar apps and performance, but like I said, 2 cents.

Thanks a lot Guod. Pretty set on surround gaming, so all 3 monitors will be for the game. I have an iPad so I can use that to view some other things (though not Teamspeak). Your setup does look great, though.

I'm sure Chris from Obutto, Joe Keefe, and others will drop by soon to totally disagree saying the immersion offsets any benefit of running sidebar apps and performance, but like I said, 2 cents. Well, it is primarily a question of what you are trying to accomplish. Doug, for you you sit in this thing and do more server administration than gaming during an rFactor session. So for that, a primary/secondary monitor configuration is great. I know you also sit there and game, and for that I do think three monitors are preferable. Yeah, it takes more resources, but you can still do it with a mid-range GPU. I am willing to turn down settings if it means getting useable framerates on three monitors, because I feel that the tradeoff is worth it. The best of both worlds (and the solution that costs the most money and takes up the most space) is to have three monitors for the primary app plus a fourth monitor that serves as the utility monitor.

Does anyone know if the Obutto triple display mount would be able to properly support 1 30" monitor and 2 20" monitors on either side, in portrait mode?

Considering how the triple monitor mount is designed, it should have no trouble with that, pepper.

In case anybody is interested: I've come up with a solution how to mount surround speakers to the Obutto, at least at the front. I use speaker holders from Amazon Basics for the rear speakers. Costs were about 5 EU for the front 3 speakers and about 25 EU for the Amazon speaker mounts. Front speaker holders are simply made from some aluminium strips, cut to length and drilled holes. On the side speakers, you can mount the strip onto the main screw of the screen mount, on the center speaker I had to resort to double sided sticky tape. Pictures: The cut aluminium strips (measurements on request, to be used in conjunction with Asus VE276Q or VE278Q screens and Logitech Z906 speakers) Result viewed from the front Side speaker mounts attached to the screw of the monitor mounts Center speaker mount taped to the center monitor mount
