Also, it is a Steam only title? I like Steam, but I hate it for adding non-Steam supported mods.

Can they do that? i mean legally?
not put steam on the box if its needed? Thats what threw me! Not sure about 'legalities' but it will probably result in some returns.

Hope you US guys enjoy it. CEM is baffling at first and drives you nuts with blown engine after blown engine I'm envious in a way because our release was overshadowed by such poor performance and all those patches so I would often put the game aside because we thought there was going to be the next patch round the corner. Yes the games got some major issues but your only the really pickiest wont get a good 50-70 hours of fun out of it by which time those buggers better have the next patch out or I'm going to march over there myself and give them a good talking to.

Just finished the installation. Over 30 screen grabs. I'll start it in a new thread, and post soon as I can get it all glued together.

I think if you install the DVD there is much less to download from Steam.

I"m confused, you need to install/download steam, but the game is on the DVD right? I'm assuming this is just like the copies of "Left 4 Dead 2" and "The Orange Box" I bought on DVD. Basically, you install the full game from the disc (whatever version is on the disc that is) but you need a Steam account to play online--which in reality means you need a Steam account to even launch the game. On the positive side, Steam automatically updates your games while you are online even if you are not playing the games; also, I have not had to have the DVDs in my drive to play the games once they are installed. On the other hand I don't know if the DVD can later be resold and activated under a different user account.

Out of curiosity I just checked my Australian Collector's Edition DVD case and it does have the Steamworks logo on the back. It does not make any particular mention of requiring Steam however so unless you already know that a game with the Steamworks logo on it means it requires Steam you have no other way of knowning short of a review or the forums. I'm sure the SimHQ review will highlight this point, and hopefully go into the benefits and drawbacks of Steamworks with Cliffs of Dover.

On the other hand I don't know if the DVD can later be resold and activated under a different user account. You can't as the game is tied to your steam account and can't be resold unless you give them your account as well.

not put steam on the box if its needed? I'm not gonna launch into my usual full sale Anti Steam rant here. Sufficient to say they may not be required to do so legally, but it would be reason for a refund IMHO - or me ripping the head off the Store Clerk if he denies the refund. Shame really, I was hoping there may yet be a Steam free version...

Well there's only 20 odd online with Rise of Flight at the moment, perhaps having trees and sounds doesn't make such a difference afterall. Not sure what the peak times are for flight sims tho, I'm in Australia so I'm 9-10 hours ahead of the Europeans and 16 to 17 hours ahead of the Americans.

Just purchased my dvd version from Bestbuy here in the US and yes you have to use Steam. What a rip-off! What ever happened to the good old days when you bought a new game installed it, activated the product key and it was yours? I'm new to this Steam thing, and it sux! BTW Bestbuy here in my home town of Macon,Georgia recieved 15 copies Friday, they have one left in the store. You can order from their website but they ship bulk-rate and the delivery date is rather archaic, not to mention slow.

Might just as well download it from steam then buy a dvd that just sends you to the steam download site.
