The day has arrived for those of us in North America. IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover has been released.

Guessing, I checked last evening at our local Best Buy store (no reviewer copies here!) and sure enough, one of the store had 2 copies of the DVD version. But they would not sell it to me until this AM. So I'm just back with it and wanted to pop in here to show some pack shots. Next I'll start loading it and give a preliminary report. Frank "Dart" Giger will be doing the review (he has the digital download on order) so my comments will be limited to the DVD version, and not get into the flight itself. TC has some articles coming also, so we should have plenty for you to read.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing other than the US copyright and expected legal statements signifying its a North America release. Also, there is no mention of Steam, only the TAGES copy protection.

I have not seen the European DVD version (is there one?) so no idea how the wrapper information compares. Add your comments please if you have the DVD and notice differences.

What version is the DVD and what is on it? Check back in 2-3 hours after I have loaded it and done a short test drive.

Images below are all shadowboxed, so click on them for larger (readable text) versions.

Just curious if it is like DCS titles where you need to be online for the first launch but after that, online connection is not needed. No mention of steam? Interesting, please let us know if it is added to your steam library.

So the big question is: What version is it? Inquiring minds want to know, looking forward to hearing after your test drive smile

IIRC, yes.
Unless 1c has done something major and kicked steam into touch, which I highly doubt.I am VERY surprised there is no mention of it on the US box!

Waiting to hear on the steam question as well.... I do not use steam for anything and would prefer to avoid the download if possible

I wouldn't be surprised if Steam was out of the equation. I think the US version of '46 was resleased without any Starforce or whatever - whereas the overseas versions were I think.

But this is just speculation, I imagine it will be a fleeting notion soon enough.

The only difference I can see to my German box (different pics on the back too) is, in the right low corner a "steamworks" logo is missing. The text regarding copyprotection is the same though.

You do! Select the lightbox option next time you upload an image larger than 950 pixels wide. wink

---

I'm going to move this into the extended discussion area because it is about to get into a "discussion".

Yep, you have to load Steam. I don't see it listed anywhere on the package. Maybe I missed it?

I'm taking a ton of step-by-step DVD installation pictures.

Back to work guys.

Remember, I'm not going to get into flying it -- just the DVD basics. Dart is qualified as one of our resident house fan drivers and his review will be out soon as he can get it done.

wink

Hi guys from Russia!

Get ready for the difficulties:) The game is good, but a lot of problems.

Take the time to curse the developers. Have long to understand the management of aircraft.
