Finally gave up on COD - what a massive dissapointment - gave UP3 a try, and am loving it, why did I ever leave - now that the AI snipers are gone (that was one of my biggest complaints) it's superb. Goodbye COD, don't think it will be sorted/modded for a very long time, so I'll be back on this for a very long time I bought IL2 original, then IL2FB, Aces Expansion Pack, Pacific fighters, 1946 , I have not tired of it either, Its made by people from Russian, and I have mildly suspected perhaps a bit of a bias towards or against certain aircraft that might cause certain aircraft to perform a little better and some a little worse than their real historical counterparts, but it is still the best World War 2 combat flight sim ever and it could live another 10 years. And with UP3 and HSFX mods its even better. We can now have jets to fight the Korean War, even mid 50's jets with A to A missiles for what if scenarios. Also I understand night fighters with working radar could be in the game soon! My only real complaint is I wish more Warship types had been made to better recreate great Air/Sea engagements particularly in the pAcific, and wish ship A.I. and manuevering was better done. I see a lot of hours of fun left in this Classic game.
my system: Intel Core I7 920 @ 3570ghz Asus P6T MB 6 GB OCZ DDR3 RAM , dram freq 680 mhz, NB freq 2720 mhz Radeon HD 4870 w/ 1 Gb vram OS.. Windows 7 professional 64 bit WD 2 TB hard disk drive etc.

Wheels Same here.. since 2002.. OS.. drivers... utilities (AV,AS etc), IL2 ... then all the other stuff..

I've flown the sim less and less over time - I haven't even fired it up in six or eight weeks; I suspect it's on the hard drive out of sentiment alone.
Multiplayer is a train wreck with all the mods and crap.

Dart, I used to feel that way, but the UP and especially the HSFX are very very clean to use, don't interfere with anything, and with the mod enabler it works like a darn dream.
I empathize, believe me, but if it can convert me... it can convert anyone, being that I'm an old cantakerous ass.

Still playing it since it came out to replace my beloved EAW. Feeling a bit strange as a 50+, but forgot that if it´s started.

About a year and a half ago I bought IL-2 on steam for $9.00. It began my foray into flight simming , and all that goes with that !
Now I'm patching up and returning to the sim - most interested in community made missions offline. Love it ! If you are still using the Steam version of IL-2 1946 this Knowledge Base article at M4T should solve some problems you will encounter. Thank wheelsup. I have the disc, but it caused a lot of trouble with installs so I went back to the steam version. I put 410_1 on without trouble, and I'm d/ling UP3 atm.
Edit. I added those three folders. Thanks again

There may be more missing folders but since I don't have the Steam version I wouldn't know about them. Those three folders seem to cure all the problems I have read about so far though. Have fun. Wheels

I just landed a Corsair on a carrier again. It's still as fun and challenging as it was when Pacific Fighters first came out.
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

if CLod had have been all it promised we wouldnt need to play this still. But, in my case anyway, I'm glad Clod sent me back here. I'm discovering what depth the sim has. I didn't look too far into it because I was waiting for SOW. Now that's out of the way I can spend my precious time in high res IL-2 UP3(RC3)DBW1.1

Yeah I am running it at 1920x1200 and it looks incredible with HSFX 5.01 or UP3.0, but even stand-alone it still looks great apart from the smoke! I don't think I'll ever get rid of this as it has so-much variety, tons of American aircraft (which will be years before they appear in CloD...if ever) and it still has a lot of players online too....so eat that CloD! 1946 is for me going to be the ultimate sim for years, by which time CloD should at-least be past the sound bugs Cheers, MP

I tried Cliffs of Dover,,, but it was a buggy and uncomfortable ride. So I reverted back to IL2 46.... Just like Silent Hunter 3, I played it alongside SH4 but when SH5 came out... I tried it for a weekend and returned it to shop. What a poor game. And returned to SH3

I used to have 1946, but managed to lose it (yes, I know - careless). I can't remember: did any of the theatres have dynamic (or non linear) campaigns? I'd be especially happy if the Pacific theatre had that. I'm sure I remember some of the European theatres having some sort of DC. I'm right back into flight sims now, after a few years not playing them at all, so 1946 has to feature on my radar. CLoD was a massive disappointment though - but I'll keep my eye on it to see how it develops.
