"All they need is a story". Lol! Invasion from outer space movies have been done so many times, I have no idea why someone thought that this was a good idea. I mean, Space Invaders isn't exactly high concept. Space monsters march your way, you mow them down. Yes, I think it definately needs a story.

Don't forget there was a comedy called "Spaced Invaders" years back.

This is pretty lame name recognition, though, as no one younger than 25 will know or care and no one over 50 will either.
