So when did he then? Oleg never spoke about handing over anything to Luthier but he clearly has, as Oleg has vanished. So when do you think he did?
The only thing we have been told is Oleg hasnt been in control for almost 2 years Chivas, thats a fact.

And i think that's why COD is in the state it is.

Personally I think Oleg hired Luthier to handle the day to day business atleast a year or so ago. There never has been anything stating that Oleg has sold Maddox Games to anyone, and Maddox Games is still the developer.

I'm still not convinced that Luthier's the man to run the day to day business of Maddox Games, but has called a spade a spade as much as possible within the restraints of the people who pay his salary. I remember being pissed when Oleg canceled work on the Battle of Britain sim to help Luthier complete Pacific Fighters. That said, I'm not ready to put the blame on Luthier for the condition COD. There are far to many variables to put the blame on one man at this point. I believe the very complex development ran into to many technical, and employee problems. The developer just ran out of time and money.

Ubisoft was involved at the time and was financially supporting the development of COD. If they weren't involved Oleg would never have brought them back for the COD release. The game would have just been released on Steam, and there would be no need to have UBISOFT involved, unless UBISOFT already had a stake in the game. Like I said at the time I wouldn't necessarily believe what some guy on telephone says to you. There was never any announcement to that effect, just a rumor you started.

As far as Oleg is concerned I never said he was still running the day to day aspects of COD. I said hes still the head of Maddox Games and has hired Luthier to deal with the day to day tasks.

Chives, James O'Reily isn't just some bloke on the phone, he is the International Brand manager, you are completely guessing again like you always do, please stop guessing its embarrasing, you have no proof that ubisoft were financing 1c at that time, none what so ever.

Yes it looks great, the only problem as with all mods is that using them online could cause a permanent ban.

Tree, you asked him about a game called SoW, yes?
So how do we know the name wasn't scrapped years ago?

Anyway, the b1tching aside, this is what I wrote at the 1C forum and I think it should be noted by the devs if they do indeed decide to improve the terrain.

Regarding the landscape, whilst the trees in this scrapped development video blend nicely with the scenary, mostly all of the trees look like traditional Christmas-trees in shape. These trees aren't widely seen, as the video dicates, across the English landscape.
One of my main gripes of the trees in CloD is the trunks. If you drive across the SE of England, mostly all of the trees you will see in the countryside, when grouped, have their trunks obscured by foliage. When flying, they just look like a mass of foliage which blends into the terrain. CloD's trees look like lollipops.
The same is true for hedges; I'd best my middle testicle that if you drive down a country lane, a hedge will seemlessly grow in size, creeping into neighbouring trees; again creating a huge mass of foliage. This is all missing from CloD.
Look at RoF. I know the comparisons have been done to death, but the trees there (from the air) look very similar to what I have described.

Those colors looks ok probably for a cloudy day ( if you replace blue sky to a gray one) but nowhere realistic for a bright sunny day. The grass is actually green at a good day , not that grayish olive one like in those pictures. Bring your pictures in Photoshop or Gimp , decrease the saturation up to -30 and you would probably see how those pictures would look at a properly calibrated sRGB screen.
Those desaturated colors kill lighting almost entirely.
I think the game just need a color settings in options. Something like a slider: color calibrated screen vs typical oversaturated one.

Yes, letting people set their own saturation and gamma is the best way.

Its also about the placement of the trees and organic feel of the fields, the old shots had it.
The COD landscape looks artificial and doesn't have the feel of England or any other real landscape.

After all the stick he endured pre-CloD, I am now a believer in Tree. He called a lot of things accurately based on the actual evidence or lack thereof. I didn't like the fact that he was right, but well, he was.

Yes Tree does kinda grow on you. However we are getting away from the argumentative theme of this thread, and I"m feeling a bit uncomfortable..... wink

Tree, you've been proven wrong, Ubisoft didn't go anywhere. UBISOFT was the publisher of IL-2 1946 and IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. That's a fact. Don't believe everything a guy tells you on the phone.

Well there's proof that you can never reason with the unreasonable...... but just for the record chivas, you spoke to no one about the publisher of IL2COD, I spoke to the International Brand Manager. He would be a lot better placed to know if UBI were involved in the publishing at that time that than you would be with your guessing games. I know that this is the only issue you can pull me up on having disagreed with everything else i stated during development, which most people here would recognise came to fruition, I have so much more credibility about calling the state of this game than yourself, but i will give you a home run on this one if it makes you feel a little better.

Tree, can I ask; you were inquiring about SoW, weren't you? There is a tangible possibility that the name SoW was dropped with the original model, and thus when you inquired, was just vaporware. I supported you when you first explained your conversation with the Ubi chap, however with the name change to CloD, I'm thinking that this change was a decision made a while back...
