+1 to the new patch but I doubt it will be out for a few weeks.

Agree. I was quite addicted to IL-2 1946 and it took me some efforts to overcome it. Now I can't even look at it. CloD looks and feels so fantastic.

Strange. I still play IL2FB and I feel like its still got a lot of life. Of course CoD looks better but not THAT much better.

It will be years before CoD will have the content of Il2FB , if it ever does. But I am a guy thats easier to please I think. I have been playing

the Rising Sun modified Strike Fighters game and really enjoying Phase 1 and 2

Well I ramp the detail up to 1920x1200 and max everything out and it looks incredible still. As a bonus the new default skins are fantastic and I can play against large squadrons without any slow-down wink

Finally the only thing that narks me is the ground detail pop-up....but that still happens in CloD so it's not a deal-breaker by any means!

Cheers, MP

I think some of the newer maps that were released a year ago for il2 look way better than the default map released with il2: cod. And I'm all about graphics.

Considering so many years have elapsed between the two sims I DONT THINK clod IS ALL THAT MUCH OF AN IMPROVEMENT TO BE HONEST!.... am still leaning towards Il-2 1946..its smooth and fluid and more immersive imho..plus with all the latest patches/updates and addons etc its also still very playable!....unlike CLOD!...which is still an exercise in patience and frustration on oh so many levels...

Better to compare something like UP3 to CoD.
In my book, easy win for UP3.

COD may look better, or lets say, has potential to look better, it is very temeperamental piece of software without going into too much details we are all aware about.

For me it is not about looks alone, or sound alone, or many other factors.
Il 1946 at least for me still provides much, much better gaming experience than COD is.

I am with the original poster, just couldn't go back to the look of the "Il-2 Classic" series after the rich visual tapestry of Il-2 CoD. I guess it depends on which computers you run CoD on, because with lower graphics settings it doesn´t always look like a next-generation sim compared to Il-2 Classic. With high graphics settings, no comparison.

Also, non-graphics-related, it is really hard to back to old-fashioned engine management after CEM in CoD. Also the on-rails feeling and lack of inertia of the old sim is jarring. I loved Il-2 Classic in its time, but deleted it from my HD when CoD came out.

I was an IL2 fan from the start and have all the latest updates but there is no comparison. If you think it is even a bit close you have something wrong somewhere. I have both Il2 and COD running full tilt and after flying COD for 90 hours now I try to go back to my beloved IL2 but it looks like a cartoon and flys like an old sim.

Same here, can't go back to Il-2 after playing ROF and COD, like I couldn't go back to EAW and RBII when Il-2 came out...

I spent an evening a few days ago playing IL-2 1946 (modded). After a couple weeks of CloD only, attacking bf 110's without seeing them roll, roll, roll, roll ad infinitum was an amazing sight. Air combat in general just looks closer to the guncam films I've seen, due to the absolutely wretched AI in CloD. There are still some really great looking maps too, in the MTO and PTO especially. Another thing that struck me was turbulence effect down low and in clouds in IL-2 1946, something I haven't experienced yet in CloD. Until the AI is updated, I'll probably be 30% CloD, 65% IL-2 1946, 5% RoF.

That is my main complaint for CoD... It looks better but not much. I have seen in game movies that made me think it had a movie a like scale of graphics. And a very immense experience. Immense it is but not the way I or many have wanted it to be. frown
