Let them if they are foolish enough, I don't buy (or whatever they call it now) anything that they make anyway. If others follow Capcom's lead then I won't buy/rent/etc, anything that they make.

Hate to see Gamefly and the rental places bitten by this, but I don't have much sympathy for the used game market. Cars and video games are about the only things I've bought that I ever traded in. LOL What sucks is that business about the game saves. I don't see this becoming normal practice. Look at the 360's history, not everyone had a hard drive to keep, but may have had SEVERAL 360's die and get swapped out by warranty. That kind of swap would kill your game as well, since you couldn't start a new game. Some people just use the onboard memory for that. As for Steam, I'm fine with it. I've got too many games in disc format that I can't use right now due to outdated Securerom, requiring Win98, scratches, lost serial number, misplaced disc....there's no perfect system, so I at least go for convenience at the point the game is new to me--the most important time in the life of the game.

I remember that! And making a hell of a lot of xerox's at the library too. LOL Until you run into those weird colored codes that copying machine can't copy. Then you have to copy them by hand, every single pages. Or those spinning wheel of codes. I miss the good old days...

They are angry because they are not getting that money in their pockets. Executives and share holders only care about one thing. Money!.

The greed of corporations at its finest.Who do these companies think they are? If they want to take this stance I simply won't buy anything from them and I am sure many will follow suit.

This is interesting - the future, eh? No saved games! I bet there is no mission editor as well!? ...and people complain about CoD's lack of gameplay hours for the "price"! I always liked the resale market because it made it possible to find older games (ie. flight simulators and rare games). However, it has already been largely killed off by the use of serial keys in PC games (which had this as a goal - they don't really deter piracy in the >13 crowd), not to mention the new DRM/DLC schemes. Reason #1357 why I would never trust Steam, Uplay or other "services" that turn games into a "service" instead of an item I buy and then own. The technical means to enforce this even on PC are of course already present, as are the contractual clauses and "Terms of Service". Well, if you read the EULA that comes with just about every piece of software nowadays, especially game software, you never OWN the game, despite having bought the disc. The right to play and/or use the game CAN be revoked by the publisher at any time. Technically, the only difference between services like Steam and owning the the physical media is the fact that you have physical media. With Steam though, not sure about the other services but I suspect the same holds true, you can make physical media copies of the game as well, so I am not sure there is any real distinction anymore. -Skater Of course, such rights may well not hold up in court (In Canada anyway). You can write that selling a doughnut will transfer ownership of the moon to you in a contract - it doesn't mean it is enforceable. However, if they control the technology (and it can't be modified) they can do whatever they can get away with (eg. when Sony wiped my copy of windows due to a reboot part way through the install of their rootkits - yes Sony was installing rootkits).

This is true (that such changes in ToS may not hold up in court). But here we are back at the basic problem that customers have no where near the legal funds that large companies have, and many customer protection agencys are not very interested in becoming involved in software or games disputes.

I simply won't buy anything from them and I am sure many will follow suit. This right here is the only real power we have as consumers.

...they can do whatever they can get away with... It's not illegal until someone sues them and a judge orders them to stop. Even if that happens, chances are slim that anyone will actively enforce any ruling that comes out of it. For example, even EA's spore lawsuit, settlement & court order didn't stop them from repeating their offense almost immediately after. I'm with the do-not-buy crowd. You can't always count on the masses to join you in your rebellion, but you're not insane enough to pay someone for a product you don't really own. Even if the withholdings of a would-be consumer does them infinitesimal financial damage, not supporting them is worth a lot more personally.
