Take On - Community Preview
As the Take On Helicopters development moves through beta, we're ready to start letting players take a sneaky peek under the hood. To begin with, we're set to offer a limited amount of work-in-progress content to the community, including one of our helicopters, its associated flight-model and the new interactive functionality.

In this thread, we'll try to keep you up to date with any notable updates to the plans or the preview data. Below follows some early info about the Preview.

* What? Take On Helicopters - Community Preview (Downloadable)
* When? Preview Launched on 24.06.11; periodic automatic updates thereafter
* Who? Owners of Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead
* How? Download from our website, right now!

Important! these releases are very much work-in-progress (wip) and do not feature final content. We’ll try to list major known issues, but if you are not willing to deal with wip features, bugs or instability, please do not try these releases and wait for the game to be finished!

Feedback! We look forward to receiving your feedback in this section of the forums, where you can discuss many different aspects of the game. The Community Issue Tracker is also kindly providing a project category to post issues to directly, which is useful for identifying/keeping a track of known issues.

Best,
RiE

EDIT: I know this isn't exactly Arma related, but you need OA to run this, so...

I gave it a run through - pretty fun. For old helicopter aces from the ArmA series, the controls will be pretty familiar. But, all of the new additions are pretty fun - clickable cockpits, improved HUD, trimming, etc. Lots of fun stuff to play with.

The thing is that this shows that these kind of features can be easily implemented on Arma II. I mean, couldn't some modder get the files and apply them to some of the other helos?

After watching some of the user vids, this is what I am hoping. Click able cockpits.. yes please!

I can't wait to try this when I get home.

It sounds like BIS wants to make more advanced vehicle simulation in Arma3:

"We’re also introducing a sharper focus with Take On Helicopters. Unlike our Arma games, this game in a sense takes on a narrower, yet much deeper, scope. We hope to use it as a building platform to add even deeper vehicle simulation aspects to the Arma experience."

Nice. Looks like about a 50MB download, I'll give it a shot tonight.

there's a new shortcut, or there should be one.

Another thing. I don't know if it's good or not. We finally got render to texture on the Arma II engine. There's a mirror near the left foot that works as, well, as a mirror. Seems that they can implement this feature on Arma II, and there aren't any technical difficulties as they said before.
