Due to several RoF crashes that have resulted in me loosing several hours of game play and twice very satisfying kills I would like to put forward the idea that during career missions that an auto save be implemented.
The idea being that if RoF crashes you restart the mission from the last save point minimising the lost time. It would also make real life impacts less of an issue, maybe have a save and exit.
While it has never been the flying sim way I think that is just because we have accepted it as such.
I thoroughly agree, and suggested the same a while ago on the CloD forum. It would also open up the possibility of longer missions, which you normally couldn't do in one session.
IMO it's puzzling that this feature hasn't been in any of the sims that I've had. When you load a normal mission, it gets the starting positions and speeds of all objects from a file. If a "save position" button was in the menu, a mission file could be generated so you could start from that point in future. Perhaps that could be done automatically every 10 minutes.
To do if perfectly, the current aim or attitude of AI objects might need to be saved and loaded as well - but if that required a substantial re-work, then it wouldn't matter too much if left out.
Having to re-fly a long mission a few times has been enough to make me walk away from a campaign or even a sim for a while - to me it becomes too much like work. I like taking off and navigating through the waypoints the first time, but not again and again after each in-game death / system crash etc.
