Did anyone notice that 777 are now giving the base game away.
The demo is now time unlimited with two flyable aircraft all the AI controlled aircraft for free.
With full access to all the features you'd expect from the full game.

The only difference is that the unlimited demo remains a demo licence until you buy an addon aircraft, at which point it becomes a full licence. Not that it makes much difference between demo and full, all the access is the same.

How's that for value for money!

Well done Jason for opening up RoF to everyone

S!

EDIT: for small mistake

The game's esssentialy free with 2 planes, the Spad and Albatros DVa. Unusual move, we'll see how it works out.

Yeah, I hadn't thought it through completely but I guess if you DL the demo now and then buy one aircraft, you've got the full, registered game for ~$7.62 (cheaper if bought on sale)? That's very generous!

Very generous. I was planning to buy the ICE upgrade anyway, so I did to support 777. Just waiting for the license to come through sigh

Ah, so it's basically the 2-plane version that debuted 2 years ago + all the patches and fixes and new career done since then.
That's a pretty good deal.

Amazingly generous move. Should be a big bonus for onliners. Lots of fresh blood. Spread the word chaps. smile

I think that was a smart move. ROF became just so good with that patch, that all 777 have to do now, is getting lots of people to test it. Hard to imagine that anybody of the whole flight sim crowd (WW2, FSX etc) will not download an unlimited free demo of the sim with the best FM. Many of them will stay and start buying planes thumbsup

Great idea, lets remember the base game is two years old, so they have probably sold as many as they are likely to sell of the base game, but free demos once tried could be very enticing, by the time you have purchased all the goodies, they would be making more than what the original game sold for.

Keep the cash flowing and the updates etc will also keep appearing, they have done well to take this sim to where it is now if you think back to the problems that were at release.

Shame the demo still requires registering. I soooo want to see a version that is released from the activation demand, a version that can be shelfed for the archive with a guarantee that it can be still installed and run in 5 to 10 years.

Yeah, and it also such a shame that we cannot just go into any shop we want and take everything on the shelves for free. Damn´capitalists!

Actually, you can.

Once you've activated your Demo account, you can play with it in offline mode forever, even if 777 Studios (or the entire internet) goes down tomorrow. Simply zip up your entire Rise of Flight installation directory and archive it.

This should be on the front page of SimHQ.

Does the demo not require a new activation when moved to a new hardware or OS, like the full game? I'm aware that I can skip the activation part by copying back the RoF folder to any of my systems drives, but doing that on a different system always results in a need to activate.

Freycinet, you have a serious problem with reading comprehension. Reported you to the admins for trolling, again.

So, what's the problem? It's FREE. Try it and if it suddenly stops working it's not like you lost anything.

Seriously, your post boils down to "I don't want to use this free thing because someday it might not work anymore"?

A very smart move. How better to promote the longevity and success of a business than to sell additional services, not on a contract basis, but solely based on responding to or anticipating the desires and interests of the consumer market! Buy what you want and can afford to buy or wait until you see what you want or can afford what you want to buy. This shows a great deal of confidence in the long term entertainment value of the product and creates a business culture that closely follows the interests of the customer. You make more money by better responding to the customer, in terms of what he wants add/or can afford. This is good and sound business.

Instead of complaining about SPAD 7s, Central pilots should capture and fly them too. I suggest putting an apple in the middle of your Aerodrome field and just wait. Eventually a SPAD 7 will come by to get the apple, cause SPADS can't resist apples. This is how the Entente gets a hold of SPAD 7s, m-kay?

Chaps, I have the normal game already installed. I won't just simple try the free Demo since it might conflict with my email adress used for creating an account, or with the game install or whatever may be there.

Why is it that you can't ask a simple question like "does the demo require repeat activation" without getting jumped, even if you have already invested 80+ bucks into the core game? The tone of this forum is amazingly offputting, sours the entire game experience. All I wanted to know is if there is finally a version we would still be able to play in 5 to 10 years if someone shuts down the activation servers till then. IS that so hard to grasp that some people care about longevity of their software classics?

I swear to god, this cultlike gang-jumping on any point of discussion not worshipping the developer is almost bad enough to make we want to go back to First Eagles 2, where there is an open and friendly community to interact with.

Imagine a pile of gold pieces, finally delivered, on which now a little man jumps angrily and points his finger to a single piece of silver: "it's not gold! it's not gold!", while the others simply take one piece of gold or another and leave happily to do something with it.

"They must have a problem, don't they see that the pile is not perfect gold, how can they enjoy it, and why are they looking like that at me. Strange people, those guys"
