Huh, so after a detour into Africa the Far Cry franchise goes back to the South Pacific!
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
I'm beside my self with excitement. That Vasa character is downright frightening with his facial expressions, his movements. Just awesome. Far Cry 2 was definately one of my favorite games of the last few years.
let's hope the remember to actually populate the meticulously created gameworld this time. and what's up with the stupid glowing "pick me up!" effect on spare weapons? really tacky.
pretty cool drowning sequence though.

Far Cry 2 was one of the best shooter non-sim presentations out there. I loved the health system, the constant first person view, the missions, the fire propagation....everything but the nauseatingly-slow-and-then-FAST! gun movement and the waaaaay too quickly respawning road checkpoints.
You gotta love the irony here. 'Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the outcome to be different'... in the trailer for the 3rd installment in a series, that doesn't seem to be bringing that much new stuff to the table and is going back to its original settings. I LoL'd.
Looks enough like the FarCry 2 engine only in a different setting, which could be both good and bad. FarCry2 had one of the best looking maps ever, but it stopped being fun after a couple of hour's play. I'm just hoping they didn't fall in the same old traps this time.
I'll definitely be playing this one anyway.
Cheers
Nico
PS : OK, let's take a roll call... In the next 12 or so months : TES:VI, ArmaA3, MW3, BF3, and now this. Looks like I'll really be needing a new rig and a vacation

It is funny,... You see the trailer. You see the freak.. And as you see him for the last time you want to kill the freak yourself. Haha Never killed a man though. And I do not care. But I mean game wise.

OK so in FC2 you could knock out a bunch of people, drive away, come back and they would all be alive again but it got into your head. Psychologically it was a great game.
It took me ages to finish (mainly because of admiring the scenery) and after hours of staring at it on a large screen tv (I thought the graphics were excellent) I was even dreaming about it. I liked the way you could freely wander around for ages without seeing anything or just go looking for trouble for the hell of it.
I will certainly be buying this just for the immersion factor.
Erm...don't know if I like this on first look. Looks like Crysis 1.
And what's with the swearing in games these days? Is it a way to show how much "street cred" they got and how gritty the story is? Oh well...
Yes, because shooting people and cutting them up with knives is fine, but a few R-rated words are unacceptable? Like everyone who's fighting will say "dang! this op is going to heck!" in the heat of battle.
Frankly, I'm glad of the return to the island setting. It's what Crysis 2 SHOULD have done instead of going pointlessly urban. I also enjoyed FC2 for what it was...not a sequel to FC in any way, but rather a continuation of the gameplay. I didn't mind the African setting, but I really liked the jungle of FC and Crysis. Naturally the demonstration is going to show several scripted sequences because that's more interesting to watch than a dude playing a game, but hopefully like FC2 they'll be down to a minimum.

If they fix the endlessly respawning checkpoint guards and make the gameplay slightly less repetitive, I'm in! Because other than that I thought FC2 was a great game.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Swearing is being overdone in a few games these day (and believe me, I swear a LOT in RL). It's not that the occasional C-bomb is going to bother me, it's more the lousy dialogue in games like Homefront and MoH is not rendered any more realistic by gratuitous swearing, as the game writers think it is.
Good writing is good writing... Look at Omar, or The Greek, from The Wire- neither of them swore, but they had some of the most chilling and memorable lines in the series.

Absolutely... a real pity FC2 was not able to be modded to remove some of the more annoying features.
I don't think HF or MoH or most games have ever had good writing. At best they overuse cliches and make unnecessary comments like "look out!" and "go! go! go!"
Generally speaking I don't play a lot of the "big" games, (such as those 2 you mentioned) so I wouldn't know what they do. As for GOOD writing, a TV series must pay for that. Games publishers don't want to, because it doesn't make for good screenshots, so they spend it on visuals and effects. THEN comes the gameplay and writing is at the bottom, if you're lucky. I don't think swearing makes for chilling or memorable lines, but it's not supposed to. It's merely a reflection of reality. People swear. A game where there is none makes no sense.
Or you can have nonsense like the mercs in the first Far Cry who would fire at you and shout "How do you like them apples!!" Seriously?

There are some exceptions of course like Bioware.

Who asked for no swearing? I'm against repeated pointless obscenities, the speech in the trailer above doesn't bother me, not like continuously referring to NPCs as motherF etc.

Well, you didn't miss anything at all with Homefront, having paid money for that makes me want to swear repeatedly. MoH 2010 had its moments.

Actually, I thought that fitted nicely with Far Cry, with it's Hawaiin shirts, cartoony atmosphere and freak monsters.
