If you could only bring 1 rifle/shotgun to the apocalypse, what would it be?

Factor in reliability, availability of ammo, good for defense and hunting...

Depends on where, but since I'm in the US - M16A2 20 inch barrel. A2 since it has sights. Now if it was rifle and accessories M16A4 20 inch barrel with scope and BUIS. Never liked the carry-handle mounted scopes. Why the M16 - in the US it would have the best availabilty of parts, ammo, and accessories.

I'd probably keep my Robinson Arms XCR.
The word "Martyr" is just a fancy name for "crappy fighter".

My Benelli Nova 12 ga. pump shotgun. Not gonna fail. 5 "nines" on reliability. Could clean it with a t-shirt. 12 gauge ammo is abundant and varied. You can use it to shoot squirrel, duck, deer, and humans, based on the load. Most any home in Texas has 12 ga. rounds. Not true with those other guns above.

The AK has high marks for reliability and abundance of ammo, but I doubt the stubby 7.62x39 has the terminal ballistics for successful hunting. The 7.62x39 has about the same ballistics potential as the .30-30, granted, its selection of hunting loads isn't nearly as good. Anyway I'd go with an LRB Arms M-14, now that's a rifle!

PPSh-1. Large drum capacity, never jams, high rate of fire. They invented the stick mags largely because the drums where not reliable enough. I'll take an AR-15. Light, accurate, easy to use, and plenty of spares.

I'd go with an M14 anytime. Scoped and silenced if possible. Maybe an EBR, the collapsable stock would help a lot in CQB, and it still has the accuracy for long range shooting.

I'm quite sold on the AA-12 (as used by Professional Russians for giving people a very bad day ) For something with a bit more reach, 7.62mm FN FAL or similar.

Where would you find those in the UK though? It would have to some sort of double barreled shotgun as farmers etc would have those and more likely to have ammo. Unless the army have been mobilised and may be able to get hold of an SA-80 or an MP5 from police station if they have an armed response unit there. Probably go with the shotgun though.

An AK. Alternatively a G3. G3 is a bit heavy but it's such a great rifle.
