I've bought every aircraft so far (even the ones I don't fly) to support ROF and I'll buy these too but wait a sec... The British and French get the historical Aldis and Chretien gunsights... No probs, that sounds fair as they were factory fitted to allied fighters. They're better than iron sights but do have some problems which is why they were replaced by reflector sights in later wars. BUT All late war german fighters get the experimental Oigee Reflector Gunsight with which in real life was only trialed by a few aircraft in Jasta 12 in 1918... This is both completely unhistorical and gives and unfair advantage to axis aircraft. Ahhh, Houston, we have a problem.....

Two questions: none of these field mods add any weight to the plane do they? Also will you be able to see the mods from external view? Thanks.

Personally, I'm only interested in the gauges. Altimeter and temp gauges for the Albs, compasses for the Noops etc. Stuff I really need in game. Iron sights, aldi's reflector sights etc I have no use for. I alway try to get very close to my enemy before firing. I very very rarely attempt a long shot, so in that respect I have no use of sights cluttering up my forward view. One of the real issues for the sights for me is that they are offset, I fly with a centred view and any sight offset (like the SE5) I find hard to use. I might get the aldi for the SE5 though, only because it's mount is centred and the bracket for it is already there.
In respect of these mods giving an advantage online, I'm not expecting a 99c field mod turning me in to Manfred Von you know who.
The real advantage in online play is time, time to hone skills and perfect your flying. I don't get enough free time to really polish my skills and so remain an enthusiastic participant online, rather than the hotshot I'd like to be. Adding a gauge or sight is not going to make a dramatic difference. Skill is skill and can't be bought with 99c.
...... or £150 for that matter. I've flown against Viks and Vaal a few times online, neither have TrackIR and use snap views. Yet both are better online fliers than me and my expensive view setup.

That sight really looks out of place in a WW1 sim...fair enough it was trialed but I expect it wasn't perfect and had teething problems...also I think anything that was very rare indeed should be a no go especially online...even though I don't fly MP I wouldn't be to happy coming across flyers with this sort of sight...even from an immersion point of view.

I agree with Brigs, High spec PC, HOTAS sticks, pedals, TIR are all much more of an advantage than a gauge or gunsight. The hardware costs a lot more than $5 also... The only item I'm not keen on is the reflector gunsight for the German planes, but then the Fokker DVIII and BMW Pfalz DXII were hardly available in big numbers in WW1 either. I'd rather they'd just left it with the cenre iron sights and trophy Aldis.

Wasn't there problems with viewing the projected reticle in bright light and reflections? I'd imagine that the ROF version will be much more effective than they ever were in rl.
Unless it had a retractable cover like the Aldis it'd be bathed in oil in a minute or so.

As I said, having a gun sight (what ever its incarnation) doesnt make you a better shot. Of course if you didnt have one before its a slight improvement, but in a tough dogfight, ablilty to out manouver your opponent is king. The addition of Iron sights to the german fighters is excellent, but there is little difference in impact to accuracy between the Oigee and the Iron sight. The mods are more than just about sights, its about making the plane feel like your own customised fighter. Its very cool. Instead of worrying about mods advantage, bother more about whether your opponent has track IR, a 42" screen, state of the art rudder pedals and stick, the latest Graphics card or more experiance than you. Thats where there is a preference for "pay to win" not in these mods

Any chance (later on) on things like an extra machinegun, le-Prieur rockets, Cooper bombs ?

I'm not so fond of some off them but I'll buy them all to support ROF (as I did with the planes)...

I think if people have bought the mods then they have the right to use them in game.
I agree it would have been nice if you were granted some of these things in the career campaign, but then again some people seem to dislike gamey elements like unlocking stuff in sims.
