It's traditional to give up on a game after it's released rather than before? Absolutely the European release was far too early, but there's been some significant patches already. I have mid range kit and now good performance with great visuals.

Tonight I played some WoP (new patch has some FM changes, worth checking out) and IL-2 4.10 with the BoB campaign. Both great fun - but I still came back to CoD realizing I haven't even sat in any axis planes yet - so much still to do.

Seems so odd to wave on the Fat Lady to sing when things haven't really got started.

with regard to where is the battle of britain, if you are refering to the size of the battles i wouldnt be too worried, there has been some testing done and 100+ aircraft missions are well within the relms of possibility, it is suprising how little they effect performance! campaign wise... well we shouldn't be too suprised at what we got, as many have noted, immersive campaign systems have never been a strength of the russian flight sim producers, il-2 was as popular as it was for as long as it was due to user made campaigns, the online situation is definately improving and is bloody fantastic when it's working, the scripted ai bomber raids are a real bonus, and add a purpose, instead of it just being a constant furball!

It seems that there are a lot of commentators out there but not many players. And we all know what commentators are full of.

It's going to be very very slow but I think it'll come good eventually. After the multicore revision turned it from a steaming POS into the most beautiful looking sim I've ever had on my PC, at least for somebody with a high-spec rig, I'm much more hopeful.

I´ve flying about 10h in CoD and i really want to like it..but after upgrading my rig to a one that can run CoD decently i´m not happier then before.
Yes-now it runs faster, no more stutters, no freezing-but i´m asking what does it run? Yes-i can fly around and shoot at other planes-sometimes they fall down, sometimes i do.
But where is the game? The handful of single missions are allways the same, the campaigns are a really bad bad joke.
MP may be ok-if i could find a server with sb else flying..

I've been reading about WW1 airships lately. Submerged German subs were sometimes attacked by RN partol airships, in good weather the crews could see them under the water.

This would be quite a cool, if non essential, feature.

My biggest frustration, once we are over all the technical issues, is that this sim/game or whatever you want to call it is a hollow shell.

I find myself flying around, actually feeling sad that its come to this.

This is me EXACTLY. Even if I got 120 FPS over London with 1000 planes in the air, the game is missing everything that would make it immersive. Right now I load up a quick mission, fly until I run out of ammo, then quit. Nothing I did actually mattered to the virtual Battle of Britain. Without any kind of persistent campaign, it's all rather pointless to me. Sure it is fun to fly and fight, but I'm not sure how many times I can do it before I get bored and put the game away for good. It's the same reason why I might have a couple of hundred hours on the IL-2 series over 10 years, rather than thousands. There's never been a truly good persistent campaign. Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain is still the best Battle of Britain game, and that came out in 1989.

I'm finding myself flying quickies, burning through my ammo, then going on autopilot and checking out the damage I did to enemy bombers in the external views. It's almost like making a minigame out of gunnery. See how many crew I can kill, or how many pieces I can knock off and still not shoot it down. Sad when you start making your own games because the actual "game" is lacking...

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Congrats guys - we've managed to go from getting a little bit of good news about the developer (having lots of preliminary work done for sequels but still being focused on producing a bug free version of the current product first) to setting fire to the town...
