No worries Wodin, you can't have been that angry, I never put you on ignore. #%&*$# me! #%&*$# me!!! (shades of the guy being buzzed by the Spitfire). I set up 12 Hurris vs 9 109s, at 1000m about 150 miles inland over Blighty. I feared for the worst, stutters and whatnot. And forgot to come off max settings. Between 23 and 27fps, not a stutter in sight and smooth as silk. How can that be?! DAMN, that was a fight! SUPERB! I got hit bad, 20mm in the right wing and my rudder and one elevator shot off (I took a sneaky peek) so I tried to leg it. One chap followed me and kept at me with his MGs. At one point I was about 100m off the deck, his burst went past me and kicked up a line of dirt on the ground ahead. It was the dogs bollocks! Shortly after that I lost control and bought the farm. Oh, the visuals! The terrain, maxxed out, smooth as silk with all those planes cartwheeling above it, shooting, rounds exploding, burners on the deck. Engine noises as planes went past, muted and real, mad chatter over the radio. Intense as hell! What a turn around, from an absolute dog's dinner to the finest cuisine. My brother on Skype thought I was having a knees-up with Natalie Portman. If any combat-simming experience is worth a bit over £1000 of upgrade, what I just had is it. That blew me away.

In RoF, totally maxed out except HDR/bloom, the lowest I get is 31fps, but almost always around 50fps, dipping to 45, hitting vsync-max of 60 very often. With that card, at 1920x1200? I have HDR and bloom off, everything maxed (only 4x FSAA) and get 50 average, never lower than 35, on a 4890. Maybe you could lower FSAA in CoD and get more medium/high detail in return? 8x at your resolutions is really not that necessary (IMHO).

OMG! This patch just made me do a sex wee Now running high detail (buildings on med,no grass,2xAA) Seeing FPS in the 100's over sea,50-60+ over land, and an attack on Manston was very playable indeed. i7 920 @3.5 GHz 6 gigs ram GTX 570. NOW I am going to play it more. England is saved.

I'm also maxed out in CoD, between 23 and 27fps 12 vs 9 at 1000m over the middle of blighty and it's smooth as cotton. Yes, the glass is full indeed. Once they sort out all the remaining issues it'll be running on the floor.

BTW, it's a funny effect with that screenshot of yours Obviously the in-cockpit shading looks awesome, but it's slightly at odds with the "painted on 3d" part next to the reflector sight... Do you mean the CEM indicators?

I think he means the part of the AC skin (3d-model) that's visible beyond the sight with the (non-default) head-position shown in the pic.

Maybe just so non-owners of the sim can have a correct understanding of current performance level: Compared to RoF, what detail settings would be about equal in CoD to give the same visual quality? I do agree that CoD has a bit extra, but (for example clouds) not in all areas. Since many people have RoF, a comparison would be helpful. I'd have to say the first settings in my original post would be on a par with RoF at max. I'm not sure CoD's buildings at any level are as good as RoF's, though that might be purely subjective. The buildings are 'different'. CoD's graphics in general also have a more 'grainy starkness' to them than RoF's, which are very solid/dense looking. CoD is very bright, RoF has a darker tone overall. Latest results of testing, still at max everything bar SSAO: 24 Hurries. 9 109s. 15 Ju87s. Head-on meet, 1000m over Blighty (well inland), 23 to 29fps seen. On the second run of the mission I got right inside one group of Stukas and saw a couple of seconds of 15fps and some stutter, otherwise same smoothness as before. That's 48 planes in total, all furballing in the same general area. If it was possible to get 100 a/c all filling the screen at the same time, close up, it might impact fps, but that's never going to happen. As you approach a large group of a/c most are lost off the screen until only a handful are close-up in view. So I'm thinking, and I'm going to test, shed-loads more are possible. Hitting Stukas is damn hard. I finally got one down, I think I must have hit the pilot because the plane wasn't smoking or coming apart. He peeled away gracefully and went in. T'was glorious.

How much does altitude influence frame rate? You could set intercepts much higher. Yes indeedy. At a realistic BoB big-battle altitude of between 4000m and 4500m: 24 Hurries. 9 109s. 15 Ju87s. 82 He111s. FPS went up to mid 30s. OMG, the sight of that amarda coming on... This is it boys, big battles are on. I had a/c all over my screen, at varying distances and it did nothing to my FPS. A few planes crashing as they turned (I've given them all very short waypoints and they're close together), planes fighting, smoking, burning, CPU is doing the job of calculating all that shizzle and the GPU and CPU are rendering it, smooth as you like. At MAX SETTINGS! I hit an He111 good and he was streaming five lots of white and black stuff (fuel/glycol and oil) but I was hit and wounded. I bailed and fell all the way to about 500m, pulled my chute but NADA! The figure does move a bit as he falls, legs and arms (mostly legs), but it's very subtle. But see the poor bugger wriggle when the chute fails. Then a big cloud of dust when he hits. SUPERB! But with a considerable pause for thought...that was how it really went down for a lot of these chaps. 130 planes guys and I've seen no evidence yet of gradual loss of FPS. Added altitude must make things easier and I could test the same numbers at 1000m, but who's going to have the amarda coming in at a height so unrealistic anyway? What next then, another 100 He111s? 100 Luftwaffe kites coming on already looks pretty damn authentic and impressive, with two squadrons of RAF types to meet them.
