I know it's only a beta patch and there are still alot of issues to get sorted, buth what an improvement om all round performance, less stutters and much better FPS even over london, I can actually see the post boxes etc as you fly low over the streets!! At this rate, few more patches and the game will be what it should have been to start with smile

Now all we need are some campaigns that live up to the name....

I'm getting a huge boost in performance here, running at 1680x1050. A quick look in the task manager shows 50% core usage and more activity on all cores. Microfreezes and stutters are almost gone, so I upped forest from Medium to High with almost no FPS loss.

I've been experimenting quickly with turning SSA0 on/off, and the impact on FPS is very minor (5/10 depending on the situation)

35/40 FPS flying low over land with 6 Hurricanes and clear skies. Given my specs that is pretty impressive.

On a major battle (the Calais QMB scenario) with 12 Blenheims and 6 109s, medium clouds, FPS will briefly drop to the teens, sometimes to the single digits, and will remain low when zooming on the bombers or town (worst alignment being bombers-flak-clouds-town) but flying around the battle I get 20/30 FPS.

Here are my settings :

Fixing the Merlins G-forces cut-off seems to have removed the black smoke effect altogether though, but that's nothing they can't fix.

Cheers

Nico

This patch really seems to do it, at least for me. Even London sightseeing was completely playable on low altitude with very high. For real game play I dropped forest to high and both building option to medium as these don't affect view quality that much, but levels up the FPS quite considerably at least flying at low altitude.

I must say that dev team is picking up quite nice and now game seems to be a very diffrent product that it was just a couple of weeks ago. If it had been published even in this condition (yes, there is still a lot to do) there would have been a lot less criticism and game would have had better start for the sales - in Europe at least.

My rig:

Massive improvement my end after an 1hr or so testing, can't stop to chat off on a tweakathon lol, good stuff though and certainly 'getting there'. yep Can now access MP too, nice one. Few graphics anomalies noted however, more later. Vsync back, return of the 'non tearing' mack. thumbsup

PS not too happy about the tachometer instrument change though. Meh.

Fps increased over london really nice. However there is something strange going on, maybe because it is a beta patch but lots of the buildings in london look like squares.. like "lego blocks". Usually buildings that are a bit more far away, but sometimes even the ones that you are on top of. It kind of kills the immersion for me.. I have Radeon 6970.

Without changing my video-settings (other than switching the new textures-setting to "medium"), I'm getting the highest FPS yet in CoD with this new beta patch. Saw 60+ over the channel with 25 - 30 other planes around and and plenty of stuff going on.

Plus: Multi-core-support really seems to have taken off now.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm pleased to give you: The hardest working cores in showbusiness!

Now that's more like it!

Gonna try and see how I fare over London now and I might even ramp up my other video-options.

Looks like this is a very good patch indeed!

Definetly better than with the old, modded version of the game. And it looks prettier too I think... landscape looks better than with the mods IMO.

London:

Unusually high FPS on the outskirts. Pretty stable and smooth, too. Although rubberbanding was still a factor. Especially noticable when zooming in all the way and watching the landscape go by. Still: Best result over London for me yet. Loading up unique buldings (in this case: Tower Bridge) still gave a short but massive FPS-drop/freeze(went down to 3 FPS).

Mission start over the docks.. record-breaking and pretty much stable FPS.

No major stutters, even when changing POV

Zooming in on buidlings will still bring FPS down, but not nearly as bad as it used to.

Getting close to downtown ... FPS start to suffer. Mid-teens to low 20s from here on.

I bent my Wookiee prop while flying under Tower Bridge. Nice detail: I only had the briefest of contacts with the water and apparently only one blade got bent. Cool!

eek2 My eyes! Textures do seem to suffer quite a bit on lower settings.

Settings used for this run

Damn, seems I am the only one who cannot apply the patch. Can you tell me what I do wrong?

I put the IL2COD_14072.rar-file into the il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder under Steam and then I right-click on the file and say "extract files".

Then I get 22 error messages saying "cannot delete output file" (with a specification of the file).

And the sim isn't updated.... frown

Just extract it to your desktop and then copy it into the folder.

Frey: Just open the rar file in WinRar, then drag the entire folder into your CoD-folder. Then tell Windows to "integrate" the folder(s) into the existing one(s) and to overwrite the older files.

Worked like a charm for me.

Frey, have you tried unpacking to a temporary folder and then copying/erasing the files in your CoD folder ?

I did see an improvement over mods, and as much as I like mods, it's always better when the game doesn't need them.

Anybody else noticed what they tried to do with the buildings pop-ups ? Seems they've added a fog effect on buildings at pop-up distance, so that even though they still pop up, the effect is a lot less noticeable. The downside of this appears to be that when diving fast towards large groups of buildings, some buildings remain stuck in the fog effect, giving the nasty 'lego blocks' effect. The system is not perfect yet, but that's pretty good thinking me thinks...

Cheers

Nico

Probably not a good idea to put the rar file in the directory you are trying to extract it too. All my downloads go to seperate HD.

Open the rar and point to the CoD folder.
