While in the midst of reading Ed Macy's excellent Apache book, I was wondering about the CH Apache version. Honestly, I did not know Boeing licensed the Apache to the UK, and I figure there may be subtle differences in the two versions. Will there be two different Apache versions (UK and US), and if not, will speed and altitude be in knots &feet (I would imagine UK version is km/h & meters)?

Thanks,
Rob

Our Apache is the American AH-64D Block II. The WAH-64D/AH Mk 1 (British Apache) uses Rolls Royce engines, has a couple of different avionic and defense systems aswell as some cosmetic differences and a different rocket pod (CRV7).

We haven't seriously discussed including the AH Mk 1. It'll be interesting to assess the communities interest in it after the initial Combat Helo release.

Cheers

wherever I might be that day
And I think only the Russians use meters and km/h in aviation...

Generally the RAF use MPH, the RN use Knots and the Army use Leagues (per hour) ( WinkNGrin )
The Joint Force Harriers had a button to recalibrate all the flight instruments when changing from RAF to RN pilots (or vice versa - nother Joke there but won't push it)
Luckily the practice of recruiting army helo pilots for Harriers had died out by then as the 2-bit DACs in the instruments couldn't handle tri-state conversion...
Seriously, for the Apache you would assume MPH for corresopondence with ground vehicles...assuming the ground vehicles don't use KPH for correspondence with european armies?
Cheers,
Keith

And yes, would REALLY like a UK Apache in CH, then I could retire Gunship!
Anybody read
'Dressed to Kill'
?
Not a button-pushers book but very interesting so far.

Hi Keith,

Yeah! have read both Ed and Charlotte's books. Great to read about the same incidents from two very different perspectives.

Both books are a great read and I'd recommend to anyone.

Cheers,

Andy

Moot point, units can be set via the ENG FLT SET page and are crew station independent.

In terms of looks, there is very little different between the two. The major differences lie in the ASE, COM, and ENG configs that are largely transparent to the average simmer and fidelity of a PC sim.

How to react to incoming 30mm:
Jump up 20 feet and spread yourself out over a wide area

Thanks, spike_knock. I knew there were subtle differences in the different versions. In my next life, I would love to be an Apache pilot copter
